You cannot check a CV joint on car, unless you're hearing the clicking around corners which mean they're rooted anyway. What are you trying to check for?

I have a funny knocking noise that occurs only sometimes. Sounds like it's coming from the front right mudguard area - buts it is very difficult to work out what it is. I just wondered if a cv joint could be the culprit. But I think mine are ok - no clicking around corners.
I suspect the noise is linked to the fact that the body is on soft mounts so it moves a bit independently of the chassis - gives the impression that the bulbar is loose. Could even be the bulbar bumping against some of the mudgauard liners - anyway its not a problem just annoying...
thanks

Check your front lower control arm bushes. I've seen one which would clunk every so often as the shell came loose in the control arm hole that it's pressed into. Get someone to look as you drive forwards and back whilst slamming on your brakes. Should be fairly obvious if the bush has fallen out the hole.

Put back together and all has been good since with a few beach runs included.
Good luck mate and with a bit of mechanical knowledge its quite a simple job.

I had the same issue. I had clunking when going from drive to reverse etc.. Replaced both shafts and the difference was unreal. I got Protex shafts from a mate at Auto one about 2 years ago and haven't had a problem. I still have the original shafts and will keep them as spares and 1 day service them. After-market seems ok for less than $400 . I lost a little bit of diff oil so i dropped and replaced it while i was greasy and covered in shit
