  • Clutch type question

Since I am going through an engine on my D4D, and the mechanics pulled the gearbox out and noticed that the clutch was pretty much down to the rivets.

I was offered three options on clutch:

    1 OEM
    2 Aftermarket Heavy Duty
    3 Aftermarket

I chose OEM, as I will spend the majority of the time on bitumen, with the occasional forestry roads for the rally car club that I belong to.

I MIGHT get more serious about some 4x4 tracks in the future.

Suspect that the current clutch has done 170k KM's.

Interested to hear other members thoughts.

Just replaced my 120 kz with an exedy safari HD, Towing a van full time for 12 months or more.

The OEM are pretty weak clutches but if your not towing then i guess it wouldn't matter.

The only real difference i can feel is a better pedal which you would expect with a new clutch and coming down through the gears it really bites in

Haven't done much towing yet but in 2 weeks the van gets hooked up full time which should test it out

i just got my 120 back on the road.

i ended up going with Australian Clutch services' extreme outback clutch.
      http://www.australianclutch.com.au/

pedal feel is now twice as light as the OE clutch, and has the benefit of a higher clamping force.

        How much was the clutch/labor?

the clutch kit ended up costing me $700 which included a new spigot and throw out bearing, an aligning tool, the clutch pack, and some super dooper clutch grease.

labour was around about the $700 mark including remove, refit, new gear oil, and a 500km flush with new gear oil again. i also extended the breather on top of the bellhousing up to the firewall where my diff breathers are also.

Just installed ci clutch kit started it up and had loud rattle at idle which didnt go away until clutch pedal was 3/4 down.I was told by a clutch and brake workshop that its the clutch plate or pressure plate couldnt believe that a brand new clutch could be stuffed. So ended up fitting a exedy clutch noise was gone also notice there was less vibration in vehicle I was fitting a new one because of shudder but ci clutch still had shudder anyway, exedy was smooth as.Warranty claim was very hard took 4 weeks and was so hard to get money back has anyone else had this trouble?
