              I'd be wary of fitting a lunch box locker in a manual. The suppliers I approached wouldn't supply one unless it was for an auto. Worth spending another $300 and getting a Detroit imo. Much more refined and because your replacing the whole hemisphere a whole lot stronger.

                    Pretty sure its open until one side rotates past a certain angle and then it locks and stays locked while there is torque load. When you lift off it should open. Not sure it always works quite that reliably though.

                      so you'd lose momentum for a bit untill it kicks in i guess.

                        I had lock rights fitted f/r to my last toyota v6 5speed OK off road in places but disappointing on road...wet road and roundabouts it would engage disengage
                        making the car pig root or gas it to make it lock and around you go side ways out only had it less than three month..
                        Off road in sand was disappointing as well dig all 4 wheels in (off camber hill) take you over the edge where standard cars would drive.
                        Best thing now is I decide when to engage them ...IMO I would never have auto lockers again.
                        Cheers

                          Thanks for the input Geoff,

                          Def going for the Rear E-Locker, ARB over $200 more & everyone I've talked to has had probs with seals leaking etc, but they due have a great after sales service, hope Opposite Lock/Harrop E-Lockers have same back-up.

                          Cheers

                            Love it when people post when they think they have half a clue. Wrong..
                            A simple google search on Wikipedia;

                            "Automatic lockers lock and unlock automatically with no direct input from the driver. Some automatic locking differential designs ensure that engine power is always transmitted to both wheels, regardless of traction conditions, and will "unlock" only when one wheel is required to spin faster than the other during cornering. These would be more correctly termed "automatic unlocking" differentials, since their at-rest position is locked. They will never allow either wheel to spin slower than the differential carrier or axle as a whole, but will permit a wheel to be over-driven faster than the carrier speed. The most common example of this type would be the famous "Detroit Locker," also known as the "Detroit No-Spin," which replaces the entire differential carrier assembly. Others, sometimes referred to as "lunchbox lockers," employ the stock differential carrier and replace only the internal spider gears and shafts with interlocking plates. Both types of automatic lockers will allow for a degree of differential wheel speed while turning corners in conditions of equal traction, but will otherwise lock both axle shafts together when traction conditions demand it."
