    Is this new feature
Whilst driving around the burbs if I brake whilst going downhill the Auto gearbox automaticly downshifts. Can then lift foot off brake and car will maintain gear until accelerating again. This may be a feature of toyota but having never had one before I think it is very cool. Anyone else experinced this. I have tried t search this but can find no record

i had that happen in a hire car once, was a aurion i think and i had the cruise set, went up over a hill and coming down the other side it automatically changed down to slow the car back to the cruise speed. was a little freaky but a great feature in any case as i've found that auto's on cruise tend to get away when pointing downhill...

do the new auto prado's have this?

Yeppers was going off at the missus about her rough driving till I found about this one.

            ops:
A slight touch of the accelerator will fix the problem.

I thought I noticed this soon after I bought the car and kept meaning to see if I could find a thread (which I have now). This is a great feature, especially on long hill decents. Seems to change down the second time you apply the brakes?

My '05 RA V6 4 speed auto Rodeo does this as well. Sometimes it's great, other times it is a PITA

                  Re: Automatic Downshifting

Under what conditions is the transmission supposed to downshift?

Mine dosn't do it consistantly when I touch the brake pedal on a slope. Does the slope have to be a certain grade for this feature to work?

You need to be travelling down a hill more than a slope.
