  • Unlocking centre diff in Prado VX 120 series

    Hi All,

My ever reliable Toyota (Prado 120 VX Diesel Auto) left me next to the road today. We drove about 100km of normal dirt road in South Africa. Stopped for breakfast and when I switched on a gain the central diff was stuck between engaged and unengaged (VSC Off light on and diff lock light flashing) but the diff was locked. I did everything from reversing to slow tight corners but nothing would get it to either disengage or engage fully. Hence the vehicle is on a truck on the way to the dealership.

I was hoping that one of you guys might have experienced or heard of somebody with a similar experience before.

Looking forward to hear from you?

    Thanks
    Paul

Did you try the old BO BO :?:

For those of you who are unsure of BO BO (battery on, battery off)

Disconnect the leads and wait 1 min then reconnect and see how you go from there.

Hey if your stopped it can't make that much difference   might even get you going..

      G'day Paul

Bad luck about having to get the Prado transported.

I have had my centre diff lock in. I was doing about 20 Kms of really soft beach work and having to maintain some speed in low range so everything heated up a bit. We I got to the end I flipped the CD lock up ... but it wouldn't switch off.

I tried reverse, forward, all sorts. In the end I drove back out into the really soft stuff and it immediately disengaged.

Then I have to lock it again to get off the beach. ops:

I've found that, the couple of times it has stayed locked in, I head for some really soft stuff (forward or reverse) and it drops out easy .... it just seems to want that wheelspin.

I've got to the stage now where I now pop the lever out while I stilll have 40 or 50 metres of soft stuff to go .... and there's no more issue.

Hope this helps ... and hope your issue is as simple ... and not something more drastic.

BTW ... Welcome along to Pradopoint.

      Cheers
      Chippy
