  • 120 D4D Auto transmission cooler install

    Hi there,
So finally I have put together all the coins and have the Davies Craig 678 cooler,Tin's bracket, 12 litres of transmission fuel, and a thump pump, however I am bit confused about the houses that I need to connect to the cooler. Would somebody have a picture to share of the hoses that come out of the transmission that have to be connected, and which way around they should be connected?
    Thank

    Hi Borec
I've done the same upgrade to the cooler on the V6, replacing the oem. with the DC unit and fan.
While this was quite staight forward as the existing line were extended to suit the mounting of the DC cooler onto Tins brackets.
Pretty sure your trans would be running cooler lines via your radiator.
Check out the Tins trans cooler bracket thread in the 150 series section, some related info in there.
    Regards

Yes that is the correct port coming out of the radiator, which then goes into the trans cooler.

I just did mine last weekend with Tins kit and also put a service kit through it. Wasn't too bad of a job, just a little time consuming. Easy to do in a day though.

What service kit did you use?

The Repco one. I didn't like the fact that it came with a cork gasket but it hasn't been an issue so far.
Only issue is I had to re torque the pan bolts after 500km.

My 120 is about to hit the 200K mark. So I’m looking to do a complete oil change on the transmission (750f 5 speed auto) and add an extra oil cooler at the same time. Thanks to the 35% off at Repco I now have 16L of Penrite ATF LV oil for a good price. And the part to do the cooler, brackets thanks to Tin's.

My question is it time to change the strainer?

I plan on fitting full length bash plates in the near future. So the cooler is to compensate for possible reduced cooling from the pan. I’ve never had the A/T Temp go off, but the Scanguage II has shown some significant temp rises driving in the sand.

                    .
I changed mine, did use after market one though, as Toyota wanted some ridiculous price, and had no time to get it from middle east (Which was about half the price, including the postage).

You would be silly not to change the filter. Repco do a kit with new gasket.
