Bent rear axle

Has any body else managed to damage an axle
yesterday driving my 4 year old 120 series d4d I hit a wall (hidden by some vegetation) speed about 15 miles an hour, the wall was about 30cm high the back left wheel caught the wall. end on, the running board was bent down, when I got out the wheel was toeing out about 2 cm more than usual ,no tyre damage or wheel damage though.
I managed to get it to our local dealer, it was handling like a greasy pig! and we put it up on the ramps and sure enough the axle had bent about 20cm in from the hub, So currently they are trying to find a new axle I hope they are a stock part in the UK.
I had previously thought the thing was pretty indestructible, certainly compared to my previous Land Rovers.It has done 80000 miles without missing a beat Got to be a bit more careful I think.

Hmmm... 2.2 tonne vehicle into solid object at just under 25 k/h.... :shock:

I think you came away relatively unscathed.... head on would have been worse... Low wall into alloy sump/front diff/front suspension and you would have been walking home.

Higher wall at 25 k/h head on = broken nose due to air bags....

What factory, mass produced vehicle would have driven away from this un-damaged?

i don't think many.
good luck finding a new part in stock.
did the axle bend or axle tube?
most likely the axle.

It was the axle that bent, the more i think about it ,it is quite impressive that it made it home

Top effort in testing the Prado's hardware to the limit however.
So far I haven't had that issue and hopefully never will. It would probably be fairly rare I would presume also, although you never can tell. Maybe that is the weak spot in the car.
