Geez it only cost $250 for one of the other members to have a leaky seal fixed on his front diff at a Gold Coast Toyota dealer, which to my mind would be harder to repair than the transfer case. maybe your guys were too busy and didn't want the work?

    Cheers,

    Dave

OK Guys, I am in real bad position here. Went and bought the pars, drained the oil and now I cannot for the life of me get the drive shaft bolts undone. Is there a special trick to it?

If I remember right, the washer behind it was a keyed one. Is there a tab to flatten out before undoing the nut?

        Hope it helps

these are the 4 nuts holding the drive shaft to the flange, I can't see any tabs on those. I assume there is one on the the nut holding the flange on the transfer case, but I can't get at that one to look without removing the shaft from the flange first.
The spanner goes on those 4 nuts without any issues I assume if there is a keyed washe with one side bent up I wouldnt be able to get the spanner on?

Yep those are the nuts I can't get undone, tried all 4. Even tried the dodgey method of hitting the spanner with a hammer and didnt budge.

just the nuts facing towards the front of the car, gold colour not the black side facing the back.

No problem. If it is too hard can look at it on the weekend. Busy Saturday morning otherwise free.

                            Good luck tomorrow

well I finally got those nuts off, spoke to a friend of a friends mechanic and he told me - Put a ring spanner on the nut and then push the car forward, when the spanner hits the transfer case it should losen the nut. Well whadda ya know it worked, took a little more force than I was hoping.
Once I got those little buggers off no problems rest of the job finished within 30 minutes.

I tell you what though that seal was absolutely Fuc&^d due to the amount of mud in it.

Thanks everyone for the advise and especially for Bomber offering his compressor and rattle gun, much appreciated mate.

Thanks to this excellent forum, I will be changing my seeping seal myself too. When I first noticed it I gave Toyota a call out of interest for a quote to fix.... $260.00.
