I had dropped the pressure down but not as far as I normally would for soft sand - long way on Bitumen to the closest servo for air.

I was a little concerned that I didn't fully understand how the TC worked on the new Prado so backed out.

I'll give it another go on an easier section of beach with the pressure down.

I have not had a problem with traction control in the sand yet! even with normal pressures on medium sand.
Having said that i have not driven in soft sand without dropping pressures.

Sometimes if the pressures are not all close to the same or one tyre alot lower than the others this can set off the traction control or so i have been told. Maybe this could be your problem.
