      Cheers guys.

Wagon Man that is exactly what I was after. I'm guessing that's a 30 fin?

To all the gurus; How restrictive would it be placing the trans cooler in front of the radiator like that? Surely, having almost all the surface area of the radiator covered would cause some negative effects or would they be considered null and void in the scheme of things given that the air would pass through the condenser fan and trans cooler with ease?

I recently gave my transmission a full flush and refilled with Nulon 100% synthetic Multi-Vehicle transmission fluid which meets Toyota type T-IV spec. I got this from Supercheap at approximately $50 per four litres. To flush my 4 speed auto I drained the transmission sump which got about 8L out, I removed the sump, clean it and installed a new filter. Refill with fresh fluid and run a hose from the cooler into a clear container so you can monitor the fluid being pumped out and see when it starts to get clean. I started the engine and pumped about 2 litres out at a time then refilled with fresh fluid. I kept doing this till the fluid coming out was close to the colour of the fluid going in. All up I used about 16L, I probably could have gotten away with 12L but wanted to make sure it was flushed as well as possible. The old fluid was very dark almost black but didn't smell burnt.

I am about to fit a larger aftermarket transmission cooler as I do a bit of beach driving and want to keep the temperatures down. I have recently fitted a temperature sensor to the outlet of the transmission so that I can monitor temperature and get a feeling for what is normal. Normal highway driving about 80-90, beach 140, low range with a few mental climbs 120 deg. I was surprised how quickly the temps jumped as soon as the transmission was under a bit of load. It will be good to see how the new cooler performs.

Roza here is a link to the cooler http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/AUTOMATIC.../111545404573?

There is enough of a gap between the transmission cooler and the inter cooler to not impede the airflow.

Blake you will have to check the size of the 679, alot of people fit the 678.

Yeah that looks a bit smaller and easier to squeeze in. Pretty sure I've seen instructions on here about it. Time to search

I picked up a 678 a week or so ago, haven't fitted it yet but will soon.

Did a fair bit of reading about it on here last night. Seems pretty straight forward. Although not sure whether to put it inline before or after the internal cooler. Didn't see a definitive answer.

Have a read of this Blake: http://www.autospeed.com/cms/A_109772/article.html
Depending on climate as to whether you go before radiator, after radiator or bypass radiator completely.

When I get around to fitting a cooler I'll go in-line after radiator. It also happens to be the way the V6 4 Speed it set-up and in my moderate to warm climate it should be fine...
                        Cheers

Well that's a good read thanks Michael. Still got some questions though of course.
We do lots of beach driving so it would presumably be very hot.
Is WA hotter than SA or not? And what about reduced air flow through the grill because of spotties and winch controller?

Excellent article there 120D4D. After reading it I think I'll take the moderate climate route and plumb mine after the radiator also. Be interesting to see what the scanguage reads after installation.

You could always try and add a thermatic fan attached to the front of the trans cooler, Blake. That is what I was thinking - trans fluid getting hotter at slow pace 4WD work ... no wind speed passing over trans cooler ... introduce fan to aid in airflow. Much the same as some people have done with fans on the TMIC.

It seem like there is a bit of room there on mine behind the grille/bullbar, so i would think a low profile fan would not be too much trouble. I don't have a winch though...
