Optimising charge power idea in D4D?

I see Piranha offroad are selling their own version of this Voltage boosting idea. They call theirs "[B]ALTERNATOR OUTPUT COMPENSATOR" (AOC). see link: http://www.piranhaoffroad.com.au/new.../27]Alternator Output Compensator

I have seen a Youtube of his demonstration to the dangers of buying the internet versions of the Diode/Fuse replacement.... Good demo, but would like to hear comments from LeighW, & others as to their thoughts on the subject ?

Their price is $98 per device.....u got to be kiddin....

All my units are designed to fuse at or below the value of the existing fuse, the M3K for
instance will trip at 850ma, the MK3 uses an electronic self resetting circuit breaker for circuit protection, it will simply reset once fault is removed.

I would like to see the demo you talk about can you please post the link?

I would be interested to know also about this as my Prado is charging at 13.2V and my Auxilary battery never seems to charge properly given the short driving done day to day

Not one of mine, never seen that specific type he tested before, or seen it advertised on the internet, looks like a general purpose blocking diode?

Like the way he carries on about nothing like it on the market and their the first to come up with it!

But you can confirm that any of yours, even the older ones will blow just like a fuse would?

I did notice it certainly wasn't yours.

Yes,

All my units will fuse safely in the event of a short circuit, the MK1 and MK2
units have fuseable links that will rupture same as standard fuse.

The MK3 have two fusing systems, the PTC is the main fuse element, and will
trip in the event of a circuit fault, and reset once fault is removed. As an added
level of safety the PTC is connected via a fuseable link to the internal diode, if the
PTC should fail (extremely unlikely) the fuseable link will rupture same as the
MK1 & MK2 units.

I seem to recall reading that Piranha have been selling a diode unit for some time prior to this version, I wonder if the unit they tested was one of them?

There's a couple of points to note and I don't like their deceptive advertising, one
if you look at the device which is implied to be sold here, it appears to be polarised, ie has
slots in the side to ensure it is inserted the correct way, one look will tell any competent
person it is not a fuse, second I doubt the unit would actually even fit in a mini blade fuse
position. You maybe be able to plug it into a microblade spot though.

Even if someone is selling a unit with a similar packaging it doesn't mean the version their
selling isn't a fused type. I notice they did not test any units currently available here on Ebay
no doubt to avoid legal action, just mentioned internet and if it has been imported from the
source I think it has it would have been purchased as a general purpose diode and not a
booster diode, a check with the manufactures website would have indicated to be used in
conjunction with a fuse.

Don't like the advertising, it is deceptive, alarmist and an aggressive selling push.

I have passed the info onto someone who may be interested and I would suspect
the video may be pulled shortly.

I spoke with Alan at Piranha about the video, he indicated he was not aware of any
other "fused" products, he indicated they would take action to correct the error, seems he is not a man of his word. He also avoided the question as to where and how they purchased the unit tested.

I also spoke with Simon at 4WD TV regarding the misleading advertising, he also indicated they were not aware of my product and responded with "believe what you are saying may possibly be some what correct and am happy to take the required steps to right a wrong" I don't know if they have pulled the video from their program but I have watched a couple of times and haven't seen it aired.

I'm no longer concerned about the video as my sales have increased markedly since Piranha have run their advertising campaign
