  • Redarc BCDC location with ARB dual battery bracket

I am struggling to find a suitable location to place my Redarc BCDC1225 within the engine bay.
I have already installed the ARB dual battery bracket. The battery bracket is located on the passenger side.

I have seen a few Redarc BCDC installs when the dual battery is located on the drivers side. (Where there is more space)

I have been advised to locate the BCDC unit as close to the front as possible to ensure good airflow and help keep the ambient temp down. This to help the unit to generate max recharging capabilities. However space seems to be a real premium.

Can anyone share where they have located the BCDC unit on the passenger side or had ARB do the install for them?

I have located mine on the firewall behind the arb bracket.
I can post photos if needed at a later date.

      Hi BCF
I am guessing that you have a Diesel model, as the ARB tray was designed for these. However with some modification I have installed the ARB tray into the V6 engine bay. I found a position against the side panel at the end of the OE cranking battery to mount the Piranha DBE180 controller. Not sure if your RedArc would fit in the same locall, but worth a look. I believe I read in RedArc's instructions to try and keep the unit within 1m of the battery to reduce current loss.
      Hope this helps

I have the BCDC1240 and I mounted it on the passenger side. However I have the Aux battery on the Driver Side. Bit hard to see from this photo, but I made up a bracket which mounts to the inner guard under the Fuel filter on the passenger side. As you can see in the pic, I also used this bracket to mount the Start Solenoid and the Circuit breakers. Pretty easy, just a bit time consuming to get the angle right for the bracket to meet the guard.

Hi - I'm new to the forum and looking to install a dual battery system in my 120 TD. Am I right in thinking that the gap in the engine bay at front drivers side is best fit for an ARB battery tray? Also does any of the surrounding things need to be relocated or can they stay where they are? Appreciate any help or tips. Cheers Al

Don't think ARB do a tray for that position, Piranha do though, on the diesel you
need to relocate a loom clip, bracket is supplied with tray.

              Cheers

I went for this one myself over the Piranha, I feel it has a little more support.

I dunno if you are running an ARB bar or not but I have mine working up front on a simple bracket I made.

Mounted the unit up front out of the engine bay to allow it to stay hopefully cooler and having air running over it.

Hi guys & gals just purchased a Redarc BCDC-1220 and was unsure where to run the orange wire to and also do I connect the blue wire with the red wire or does the blue wire run to the ignition (12v) thanks.

The instructions tell you where to run them and what to do with the orange wire. It's probably one of the simplest things to do. Orange wire depends on what type of battery your aux battery is.

The instruction manual for all the BCDC chargers can be downloaded from the Redarc site. In the instructions it shows various installation diagrams and also what to connect the various wires to. If you need help after reading that post up which diagram you are following and which battery you are using.

Hi playdoh, I like your idea of mounting your bcdc up front to get the airflow and minimise heat from the engine. I'm looking at doing something similar but am a little concerned with the unit being so low for water crossings. Have you had any dramas with this? But I see mounting it any higher in that space would significantly block airflow to the radiator. The blokes at arb told me they mount them up front but I can't seem to find a spot that is high enough to keep it dry that won't block the air. Your idea looks to be the best I've found so far. Did you make up you're own bracket for this? Cheers, Kel.
