  • ABS warning light

Hooked up my tip trailer yesterday and checked that lights working as required. But on getting in to drive off noticed that the ABS warning light was on. After doing my job on unhitching the warning light went out. First time I had notice this.

Does not happen with the camper.

    Any clues?

Happened to me towing a mates trailer. I read somewhere on here why it does it but not sure.
Turn the car off and it goes away. I think you'll find your cruise doesn't work either.

It is an earth issue with what ever you are towing. Had the same issue with the box trailer but not the camper. Pulled the plug apart and the earth wire had come undone. That is an easy fix.
A hard fix is if the earth points (normally at the lights) is not getting a good enough grounding.

      Hope this helps you out.

Figures. The trailer is quite old and there is some damage to the wiring. Will rewire it.

Sounds like the best possible solution to the problem.

Another reason I found today. If you replace the rear/brake light with a LED version the ABS warning will come on soon after you start driving.

I took it to Toyota as I thought they had damaged the sensor wiring, (after they fixed a "loose camber pin" - another story) but it didn't come up on their error code reader. It just said Brake switch failure. Replacing the brake switch didn't help. Then I realised that I had replaced the bulb immediately after I got the car back from them.

I found that you can still use one LED with one traditional light and the problem goes away. I now have the LED on the right side for reliability reasons.
