  • ESC/ABS/TRC Over-Ride Switch

Hey guys, just looking at my best option for an over-ride switch for the Traction Control and ABS on my VX 120. To say the system is a pain on the sand is an understatement. I want it off and want full control and manual braking and throttle.

I've found the grey plug on the master cylinder and tested that it does disable the above with no ill effects and it all seems good once you plug it back in and re-start. Happy Days.

I do however want to put a factory switch on the dash for this and was just going to cut one of the wires and run a 2 core flex to a switch on the dash. I was hoping to use a factory looking labeled switch but was wondering if anyone could tell me how much current is going through those wires. Their only fine gauge and are only powering a sensor so I'm guessing it's only very small. The switch I want to use is good for 3 amps. I am very anal about my wiring, it is all extremely neat and properly done so this will be no exception.

Can anyone see any problems doing this? I've got a link to the switch I've ordered in.

    Thanks, Ben

Centre diff lock button, just below cig lighter plug does that. Be stopped and in park or neutral first.

    Cheers Jim.

The centre diff lock button only disables the stability control, not tc.
I've got the same switch all in place and have just got to get a sparky mate to connect it. While I normally don't have an issue doing wiring type jobs, I'd rather get someone in the know to do that one just to be sure.

Yes but I think that's what is annoying to the OP same as it does to me on sand. Before adding any other buttons he could try it and see.

Thanks guys, yeah the Centre Diff Lock only disables the Stability Control. The Traction and ABS both stay on and are an absolute pain.

I was in the same boat Marcus, was going to get a proper auto sparky to do it but it's looking pretty simple.

I don't know what Toyota were thinking when they came up with this system. Coming from a fully modded Jeep with duel air lockers i was expecting some disappointment from the Prado off road but this system did my head in.

Yep, you can turn tc off in a Commodore which I can only really think of one reason for it ( increasing tyre wear )
But then Toyota in all their wisdom build a vehicle that would benefit from being able to be turned off and don't fit it.... Go figure
