  • Dual Battery (second battery to be relocated in Cabin)

    Hi All,

I am wanting to relocate my 2nd battery from under the hood to the rear of the cabin and am planning to put my provent 200 under the hood where 2nd battery was. Anyway.... I have a piranha electronic isolator is this up to the job? I understand that this will only charge 2nd battery to 75%. I plan on removing the battery for day to day driving and putting back in for trips etc. I have purchased a JTS battery box does anyone have any advice on the best way to secure it? I am keen on hearing from anyone who may have done this.

    cheers!

If you have suitable cable installed, and a booster diode fitted your Piranha system will charge your aux to 100% and do it much more quickly than a DCDC charger.

    Cheers

I use an ABR battery box and it works fine. I tie it down with old lap seatbelts which are attached to the seat belt mounts in the middle row of seats [ which are usually removed when the battery is in place.]

I mounted my second battery in the rear between the second row of seats and the fridge slide,
I installed a sheet of 19mm ply in the cargo bay bolted down into the existing nuts designed for the 3rd row seats.
I then installed Tee nuts fitted into the ply to secure my fridge slide and battery, 6mm for fridge and 8mm for battery
I used the brackets that the 3rd row seats clip down into as the fixing points for the straps that hold the battery down.
I didn't use a battery box just strapped the battery down in both directions with HD strap

Having attended a lot of car accidents, I'd be very cautious putting a battery inside a vehicle cabin. A battery is a very heavy acid filled potential projectile.

AGM batteries are only allowed in the cabin though. Therefore, no acid spillage.
