  • OL chargemaster or National Luna Isolator Solenoid issue

I have a problem with my auxiliary battery not charging.
My old battery fell below 11v and died, so I put a new AGM battery in and it fell to 11v too.
I'm now suspecting the isolator is not allowing charge to the aux battery.
Any ideas how I check it.
It seems to kick in after 10 mins but not for long. I drove for 3 hours and the battery didn't charge.

I've checked out a few things and found the fuse holder had melted and broke the connection to the isolator solenoid.
This now leads me to wonder if the wiring and fuse holder are adequate. The fuse holder has a 60A glass fuse inside which was still ok, not blown.
I was using the winch and it must have been drawing from the auxiliary battery as it was slow just winding in the cable. Engine running and main battery fine but auxiliary not receiving current due to the chargemaster timer.

If winch is connected to the aux you want to have heavy cable and an
isolator that can handle heavy current, alternatively one with over current
protection. Alternatively disable the VSR during winching.

I've checked the wiring and the winch is connected to the main starting battery. It must have been struggling with winching and started to draw from the aux battery. How can I disconnect the VSR when winching?

If you have a Redarc, they have hey have a couple of small wires, one goes to the isolator
terminal and one to ground, I would guess if you disconnect one or the other the isolator
          will drop out.

Thanks LeighW. There's 2 wires on the OL chargemaster so hopefully same applies
            applies.
