  • 'Idle Up' Switch . What is its function ?

There is a switch with the words 'Idle Up' and three arrows (it is located below the side mirror adjustment switches). Am unable to find in handbook. Could you please advice me on the function of this switch ?

It increases the revs at idle when the engine is cold to help it warm up quicker.

    Cheers Andrew

Also note that if the ambient temperature isn't cold enough then the switch is automatically disabled.

What temperature would you use ?
So you manually turn on but the switch heating will automatically cancel once acceptable engine temperature is reached ?

It's probably meant for extremely cold areas, sub zero, I don't ever use mine.

It cancels automatically once the temp rises.

          Cheers Andrew

That would explain it! Mine doesn't work - but I do live in Darwin

It's for European climates. Apparently it only works below about 10 degrees, and is meant to warm your engine up faster.

Yeah I was a bit disappointed - always good to have the idle up feature when winching - keep pumping as much into the batteries as possible. Not hard to flatten two batteries while winching even with the motor running! (I did just this when bogged in some black mud).

I believe it turns off after the 17 degrees Celsius. Useless for anything else. Would be good if you could rig it up to high idle whenever you want.

If only some one could sort out that idea, it would be great. Pain in the butt to winch, throttle and watch what is going on all at the same time.

That would be Canberra on a - minus day. I use it from time to time while sitting in the drive way.

I use it on the work hilux all the time. bloody cold out in the desert.

I was worried the one on the prado was stuffed. good to know it only works at a certain temp, im moving to melbourne soon.
