I'm trying to install an aftermarket keyless entry system to my Prado 120 standard 2008 model (as this is one of the few models without keyless entry system)
The aftermarket system has 2 wires (blue and green) that give an output of 0 or 12V respectively on lock/unlock with the remote.
It clearly states in the installation manual that "both wires have to be connected to a wire that pulses 12V or ground to activate the vehicle lock/unlock relay. The door lock outputs are low current and should not be attached directly to any high current device; they are only to be used to activate relays."
See attached wiring diagrams for the explanation below...
When I measure the voltage output pins 5 and 6 of the "door key lock" D20 (figure 2)(which I assume are the low current wires activating the lock/unlock relay in the body ECU --> correct me if I'm wrong), both have an output of 0V --> 1V when pressing the door switch (respectively lock, unlock)
1/ Can I connect the aftermarket system with an output of 0-->12V to these pins (pin 5 and 6 with 0--> 1V output) or will this damage the body ECU?
2/ Also, I'm a bit confused with these wires running to the body ECU (figure 1 pin A24 and figure 2 pin A22), because if I disconnect connector A the whole central door locking system still works... How is this possible when these are the wires activating the door lock/unlock relay? Where am I wrong?
3/ I would like to position the aftermarket system behind the drivers side kick panel and it would be easier to connect the required wires to a split/junction box near the body ECU. Given that my assumption in question 2 might be wrong, which wires/pins should I connect it to?
Has anyone experience installing an aftermarket keyless entry in a Prado 120? All tips are welcome...
