      • A small update.

I recently replaced the halogen light I had with an LED light from eBay seller 'trailertruckpartsvictoria'. Postage only took 1 day.

All I can say is... holy crap! Super bright and far more efficient than the halogen.

        • Was chatting to a bloke when in Rocky this week who races comp trucks and was provided from his sponsor some HID LED ? Which he had mounted on the top of his bullbar and he said the light output was amazing. Never heard of them before... Will post a pic when I'm near my laptop ( tapatalk at the moment)

            Cheers,

I'd be interested in that too. I was wondering if they were too bright so was thinking maybe go for the 15 W version.

This is the same LED work light that I bought (see post #88) Yes it's bright but that's what I need if I'm setting up at night or need an area well lit up. It'd be nice to compare side by side the 15w vs the 27w. Might buy a 15watter sometime for a comparo and keep it as a backup

                • Hello,
I am going to be making my own light mount for the back of the car, fixed between the rear door and spare wheel, with the main outcome being to increase the light around the rear of the vehicle when reversing. As such i'm interested to know if anyone with a telescopic light can advise the increase in surrounding light, particularly distance, when comparing the difference between not having the light post extended and fully extended.

The reason for this question is that I don't want to have to add complexity (moving parts) if the extra light output is marginal. Also i'd rather not have to get out of the vehicle to extend a pole then put it back down if I only want to have a clearer view when in tight spots. I have my eye on a few wide spread LED beams and will put up my build when complete.

I appreciate any input from those who will go to the trouble to check their set ups and provide some feedback. From what i've read on this thread so far, there's some good ideas from people and ingenious solutions.

As a footnote, i'll be making up mounts and LEd lights suspended from the Rhino HD rack I have for the left and right side of the vehicle for camp duty etc, but this will be a separate project. The aim will be to wire it up in one go, so I don't have to continually remove trim panels etc.

                  Cheers
                  Tim

                  • If you want extra light when reversing, then you need it high so that the tyre doesn't cast a shadow. Otherwise, leave it low but move it out to be flush with the tyre.

Here's a comparo. Not the best quality, but it will give you an idea.

The first pic is the halogen light. The second is the LED. Taken about 3 minutes apart in the middle of the day. Will give you an idea how much brighter the LED is.

                      Halogen:

                      • Certainly looks a lot brighter.

No, the hole is drilled through the centre of one of the mounting bolts - in my case the top right one.

                            • Good Idea Trekrider.

I just drilled a small hole behind the spare wheel braket and put a rubber grommet and feed the wire through the grommet.
