      Guys,
      As I understand it you are doing on a manual. I will watch for the results but I have an auto and wonder if anyone is or will be trying it on these?

        It's interesting that the Marks Adaptors unit works on manual Prados but not on the autos (according to their website).

        I'll have to sit down and have a look through the wiring diagram for the auto boxed Prados and see what the difference is.

        If you need an extra pair of hands on the day just give me a call and I'll wander over.
        Sure... be a good chance for me to have a look at the sensor on your Grande too.

          Mick.

          I need to grab a speedo pickup up under the dash somewhere, any idea from your wiring diagram where is best to go from?

          The Terratrip unit I have (Monit) is able to be claibrated to whatever pulse, so as long as I find the ground and VSS wire I am right.

          Any tips?

            PM sent...

            Either the feed to the instrument cluster or I think I read some where the factory sat nav has a input as well?

              Re: Speedo Calibrator - will it work?

              Just picked up my new Colorado t/diesel work car and the speedo reads 10km faster than actual speed at highway speed: shows 110 when actually doing 100. At 65kmhr indicated your actually doing 60, at 88 indicated actually doing 80.

              It'll be going in at 3,000 for it's first service and to see if they can fix the speedo. And to fix the rear seat so it locks into position.

              Or maybe it's a ploy by Holden to get the servicing done sooner.

                Or dare we suggest a ploy by car manufacturers to go further on a litre of fuel?

                  Guys,
                  It is my understanding that it is now part of the ADRs that a speedo cannot read below the actual speed and thereby make you think that you are going slower. I wonder if it makes them liable for your speeding tickets if it reads below? My wife's Yaris reads 5kph slower as do the newer Prados.

                    Great job Mick - I jumped back on to see if anybody had replied further and as per usual somebody is all over it! I'd obvioulsy be keen to know how you go, make sure you update us with any result.

                      Re: Speedo Calibrator - will it work?

                      I won't be playing with this until after I get back from the Simpson.

                      I'm hoping to cut into the speed signal under the dash somewhere. Even though it's easy to get to the Hall effect sensor wires at the gearbox the speedo calibrator isn't in a sealed/water proof box so I'd rather it in the vehicle. Also don't really want to run wires into the Prado and then back out again.

                      The plan is to get into the loon somewhere near the instrument cluster.

                        I'd say there has been some confusion in the past because the Prado has three speed sensors... one for the ECU, one for the ABS/VSC and on for the combination meter (Instrument cluster)

                        Mick
                        I've been looking at the wiring for my 05 Grande and I think you are correct in S2 is the sensor that controls the speedo but it also appears to feed its signal into the Skid Control ECU. The latter is also connected to front and rear ABS speed sensors and the engine ECU just to name a few. I am a little concerned that changing the input from the S2 speed sensor without similar adjustments to the ABS speed sensors (and possible engine ECU) may cause some issues with the logic in the Skid ECU. I think I will be leaving it to a braver man to cut the pink and blue wire and somehow insert the calibrator in the middle. Still happy to provide moral support on the day when you cut your wire.

                        Cheers

                          Brown = Earth
                          Gray = 12 volt supply

                          For yours I read the wiring diagram as:

                          Brown = Earth
                          Green = Supply
                          Grey = Signal

                          For 05 Grande (still need to inspect visually and test with meter)

                          Brown = Earth
                          Green = Supply
                          Pink / Blue = Signal

                          As with Mick's comments / warnings.

                          It is YOUR responsibility to check the suitability for your own vehicle :!: :!:

                            Garry,

                            I'll see how I go getting at the pulse wire near the cluster. Should avoid any issues. My era GXL has very little in the way of electronics compared with your Grande for example so hopefully this will be a blessing in this case.

                            I'll get Justin in on this, He's an auto electrician by trade so any F ups are his fault :wink:

                              Just wondering Mick if you have installed that Speedometer Calibration unit and what was the results? Did it work in your mates Pathfinder? Was it the Hummingbird unit that you used?

                              TP did you get one of these as well? Does it do the job?

                                No I haven't got to it yet, I have a long "to do" list and not much free time. Once I have my intercooler fan project finished then I'll get onto this.
