Re: Speedo Calibrator - will it work?

      Digging up an old thread.
I am looking to install a terratrip in my 2004 auto GXL. Rather than installing a wheel probe I was hopingto take a feed from the gearbox / speedo. has anyone successfully done this. Thanks

Hey all. I have a 2008 auto VX D4D and am pretty keen to put this Hummingbird speed calibrator into my wagon. I have read the wiring diagrams and understand there are two speed sensors coming from the auto box. One is the S2 speed sensor (combination sensor) and the other is the S3 speed sensor (ECT). I would believe I would hook up the speed calibrator to the white and blue wire coming from the S2 sensor as described on the hummingbird website (PDF). However as asked by other members in this thread they are not sure if this will affect the traction control etc

Has any one tried installing this on the 1KD-FTV Prados or do i have to still be the guinea pig?

Also what’s the worst that could happen? Could i blow something in the computer or would the traction control just stop working, perhaps a check engine light coming on in the dash?

My thoughts are that everything should prob work fine as all we are doing is reducing the milliamps going through to the Speedo. But then I’m no electrician.
Any thoughts or ideas on this topic would be great.

If I do the install I be sure to put up photos etc, but before I order I would like some possible feed back. Cheers

Might be worth running past the dealer first as I think when they replace
the speedo they have to calibrate to suit the car, ie auto or manual etc.

They might be able to fudge it this way if your changing tyres or diff etc?

I think you'll find the speed sensor is most likely sending pulses to the ecu,
therefore output will be either on or off ie 0 volts or 5V etc changing the
current won't have any affect unless it reduced to the point where it simply won't work.

          Cheers

I have installed Yellow Box V5 with splice wiring (solder connection) on my Grande 120, tested and calibrated speedometer for bigger tyres. My full installation information is in this thread:
              http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread...=certification
The Yellow Box V5 works fine and I am very happy and also particularly thankful to Jenny at Yellow Box who has been excellent in finding the correct solution. For about $79.95USD, or about $76.40AUD, it is a very good value. Thier website and contact details:
