    Yes, very good point Boomslang. That was also a consideration in adding the Redarc to my setup. I agree entirely with your comments.

      Installed anotherRedarc into a freinds 120 series Prado on the weekend...

      This time using a standard leadacid battery... here is the output at idle with the engine hot....

          Installed anotherRedarc into a freinds 120 series Prado on the weekend...

          This time using a standard leadacid battery... here is the output at idle with the engine hot....
          01Rod keep an eye on your mates battery as in in absorption mode the Redarc pumps out 14.9v and this is more than some lead acid batteries can take.I recently installed my Redarc and a new lead acid deep cycle battery and was getting acid all over the top of the battery and running down over the sides on to the car.You could see the acid bubbleing out the caps when it was on charge.Turns out the battery was only rated to a charge level of 14.4v . They took it back with a full refund and I installed a new gel deepcycle which is rated higher than the Redarc output for a gel battery and no problems yet

            Would cteck d250s be any good at charging allrounder batteries? I'm guessing they are calcium type as the info on the interweb is very scarce

              As I mentioned in my PM to you, after my experience with the Allrounder I wouldn't fit one in a D4D.

                seems like allrounder are the go if you have the redarc or the ranox unit...i'm wondering if the ctek unit (smart charger) will still be ok with one of these?

                  Have read posts re battery isolators cum chargers and have bought at great cost the Ctek D 250S. Now to install it but where????

                  My second battery will be in the Toyota supplied location on drivers side behind headlight where I have installed a Piranha battery tray.

                  I would really like to hear from anyone with a D4D as to where under their bonnet they installed the Ctek 250S unit and how (i.e. what type of fixings etc)

                    I did, however i used the ARB tray setup so the 2nd battery is behind the first one and the CTEK is mounted behind the headlight on the driver's side. There is lots of room there and I'm planning on installing an ARB compressor alongside it as well.

                    Did you go with a calcium/calcium battery?

                      I guess I better add to this thread, here is my install, the dual bettery is a SSB 80AH agm



                      A keyed switch to link the 2 batterys togeather





                      Only thing left to do is put a switch on the "blue" wire to shut down the redarc when the 2 batterys are linked togeather for winching or starting.

                        Awesome idea that switch mate, save you almost 30A with the charger off, instead of having it trying to bring its own supply voltage back up under the drain of winching... Who gave you that idea?
