Hi,
I have just bought a Prado which came with a dual battery setup, the aux battery is a 80amp GEL battery. There were some 12v sockets in the back but with the backdoor closed they couldn't be used, so I wired another socket to them to plug my Weaco CFX28 in to.
Now I was using it for the first time today and with the car running and the AC on the fridge stayed near the set 4 degrees Celsius. But now at a campsite, car in the shade, doors open the temp in the fridge keeps rising and it now at 10 degrees.
When I plug the fridge into the inverter with its 240v plug it cools down to 4 degrees in mere minutes.
What have I done wrong?
Cheers.
[EDIT]
Did some testing with the multimeter. Directly on the aux battery I am currently measuring 12.57v, this is after having the weaco plugged in for 2 hours after turning the engine off.
When I measure the volts at the old and new (the one I added) sockets I get the same measurement. When I can hear the compressor running the volts drop to 11.5v and after a few seconds the fridge turns off. The battery monitor on the fridge is set to MEDIUM so it turns off at around 12.5 volts. I guess this is what's causing the fridge to turn itself off? Is it safe to lower the monitor level to LOW (10.1v)?
Is my battery at the end of it's life? :-) I fully charged it the other day with the charger set to recondition mode.
[EDIT 2]
Set the monitor level to LOW and plugged the fridge back into 12v. It keeps cooling now and the volt meter on the plug reads 10.8 volts. The battery still reads 12.5v and when I check one of the anderson leads near the towhook it also reads 12.5 volts. So this means my wiring is too thin to carry enough power?
