  • Trying to sort alternator options, hope some one can help :)

Apparently the 120 alt is a bit average for failing with water crossings, mostly due to where it's located.. After a bit of looking around I thought (and still beleive) a sealed unit would be the best option however there is no direct bolt in alt for this.. I have contacted a couple of places that sell fully sealed alts and the story is the same in that it need some fairly major mods to make it work..
I am OK with fabricating to suit but from reports its a total pain in the A** to get done (if anyone has a mod thread for this let me know please!)
The other option I have found is a brushless alt which will bolt straight in (endura) but having never done this mod I am unsure if this brushless unit will work sufficiently given a trip with multiple water crossings, Ideally I want to spend some money on this and then forget about it being a potential issue if I amd driving through deeper water, as in trying to get it sorted so I don't have to worry about it when I see a puddle (aka knee deep boghole)
Any thoughts/ opinions would be much appreciated thank you!

Give the boys at VEOP in QLD a call. They have done sealed units on Prado's before.

As I understand it.. it turns out VEOP source the alts direct from Rapid Power in Salisbury QLD and don't offer much in terms of aftermarket support
Just posting this bit for future readers if there are any
I think given the fitment issues of a fully sealed alt I will go with a brushless one that bolts directly in.
Is anyone running a brushless? If so can you submerge it (river crossings etc) without problems?
They run to roughly $1300 so I'm interested to know if anyone is running a brushless (rather than fully sealed) with no issues in mud/water etc
        Cheers

Have dealt with the VEOP boys on quite a few things, and their support has been nothing but fantastic is my experience.
