Thats what it seems like, sorry didn't take any pics before fitting the bar, tried shoving the SLR down the back of the bar to get pics but no luck. I will try and remember if i have cause to remove bash plates.

      Cheers Andrew

Well that'll make it hard to fit these LEDs then.

Re: Upgrading ARB bar lights to LED

So it seems now there is 3 types of bar for the 120.

I have the original that takes IPF fog lights.
The 2nd takeds ARB fogs and has a metal plate behind the plastic shroud still as shown in the pictures in this post.
The 3rd has no metal plate.

There is a slight difference between the 1st and 2nd version shrouds as well, 2nd is slightly smaller.

I have IPF fogs and the bar was new in 2008, what version does that make mine?

              that is correct.

the original shroud is larger, and can not be used on the later versions. sux if you have this bar, apparently the shrouds are not available anymore, and the ipf fog lights are $400 for a pair. don't hit anything.

the 2nd version is a smaller shroud to get things more uniform accross the arb bar range, but still uses the large metal bracket at the rear that clamps the shroud to the bar. these would often come loose and people would loose indicators/fogs and shrouds etc.

the 3rd is the same size shroud, but the actual shroud is a different mould. this one can not be used on either of the earlier bars. these ones have small screws and platic clips to hold it in the bar. the cutout in the actual bar allows for these screws/clips. the fog lights are a cheaper version, but if it has the dark/black cover over the globe, its the new gen fogs.

the fog lights had an extreme habit of filling with water, even the IPF ones. there were two versions of the non ipf ones too.

Re: Upgrading ARB bar lights to LED

Here's the link to the new light surround (V3) fitting instructions.
                http://blkmav.com/stuff/3163015.pdf

So if you have a V3 bar you will have to glue the LED lights to the surround as there are no holes for the screws.

Re: Upgrading ARB bar lights to LED

My bar is an ironman bar and different again though I am sure it is the same plastic insert with the fog (driving) lights. D4D do you have any pictures how the LEDs attach to the bracket? I contacted the supplier but they have nothing other than a drawing that shows the black backing piece has two holes in it. Does the front LED section clip into the black backing plate and does the backing plate have captive nuts or screws? I will drop the protection plates off mine tomorrow (PITA x 6) and see if I can make these fit but some info on how the LEDs bolt it would be useful to check if I can do a bodgy.

You screw the black backing plate onto the metal bracket, I used the self tappers and speed nuts from the existing light assembly. Then you push the LED part onto the black backing plate and it 'clicks' together.

Thanks D4D given it is belting down I will get under and have a look and see if I can fit another bracket in there.

Re: Upgrading ARB bar lights to LED

Similar but different. Damn. My indicator/side light unit is angled but the bolt spacing is much wider than the LED unit according to the info on their website. http://led-catalogue.ledautolamps.com/O ... E/ledtech/ search 175aw. What is the width of your old ARB unit? Mine is 185 across the lens section with the bolt holes 172 apart. The cut out in the steel support plate is 155 wide with two slots at 172 centres. My existing indicator unit is spaced to come up to the inside of the plastic insert so I reckon I can make up an aluminium adaptor to fit the LEDs in place. My plastic bar insert looks identical and there is no need for the indicator unit to be so wide. The hole in the plastic is nominally 125 x 44 with rounded ends just like the ARB unit. Not sure if anyone has taken the number of the ARB plastic insert but ming is MCC Engineering part #012805 RH for the RHS naturally.

Think I will give it a go.

I ordered a pair. I can make up an adapter easily enough and after spending 15 minutes replacing a bulb this morning (and checking out the bits and pieces) I will get the LEDs to fit!

                            thanks for the help

When I feel motivated I'll pull mine out and move them across a bit. The parker only has 4 LEDS and 2 of them are partially obscured by the shroud. They only need to go across 5-10mm

Re: Upgrading ARB bar lights to LED

The LEDs turned up on Thursday and I got around to fitting them yesterday. Had to make up a support bracket to suit the spacing of the ironman bar. A single piece of aluminium bar 25x10 190 long. Drilled and tapped to suit the original bolt positions and then one further in for the LED bracket. Works well. Can now adjust the position of the LEDs in the bar after the whole thing is installed which is a plus. I have though decided there is a new Murphy's law which pertains to working under the bullbar:

Regardless of how clean the bullbar is, how much water has been hosed into the spaces behind the bar; how far displaced from the head the work is being done grit will fall into the eyes. The only exception to this is when you see the stuff falling and turn your head and then it will fall into your ear.
