Howdi All,
Similar to other recent post on tail lights not working I've got some funky activity happening with my tail lights that someone may be able to shed some light on (pardon the pun).
I have LED's in the back of the Prado for the brake/tail lights. Have had comments from a few people on trips that it is pretty hard to work out the difference between brake and tail if i have the lights on. (if the lights are off then on/off is easy to spot, if the lights are on then the difference between stop and tail is very marginal, the bar light at the top of the windscreen works fine.)
so i decided to take them out and put some normal 5w 12v dual filament lights in. here my problems begin.
with the new light bulbs installed i have no brake lights at all. no bar up the top, if the lights are on then no change between bakes on and off, if the lights are off then no illumination at all. and the kicker? the horn stops working properly. i get a marginal squeak (i have air twin air horns from a Calais so it's far from normal)
had me perplexed, checked all the fuses and all is well. so normal process of elimination is to go back to where it was working, take out the light bulbs, put the LED's back in and hey presto, horn works again, as does the light bar at the top of the window and i'm back to having little difference between brakes on and off if the lights are on. tried each light independently, the moment the non led bulbs are installed the brake lights completely fail and the horn stops.
On reflection I can't remember if the bulbs should be single or dual filament but would be surprised if that would cause the whole system to shut down including the horn? any suggestions? or can someone confirm what the bulbs should be?
