Re: HID Bi-Xenon High/Low Beam Installation

How are you triggering the relay for the driving lights ? eg the coil needs a positive and negative to pull in, I have seen things like this before related to the pick up point for the trigger, what i do is pick up the positive and negative off the highbeam headlight circuit just at the back of the headlight, never gives any trouble that way. I doubt the ballast ( high voltage )would be impacting on the driving light relays, if it was i think it would probably be effecting other things also. Check the simple things first

Eureka - the light has come on (and goes off as it is suposed to). I was triggering from the back of headlights but only with the positive lead. No globe - no earth - lotsa problems. So triggering is now from the headlight relay which of course has its own earth and all is as it should be. Thanks Speedcomm - just needed a prod in the right direction.

Re: HID Bi-Xenon High/Low Beam Installation

Guys I have just installed the H4-3 BiXenon kit and it works great. Its a telescopic kit. It is supposed to be 4300k, and is labelled as such but seems to look very very similar to a 6000k kit I put in another vehicle.

My only concern, apart from the windows not working (found the fix for that one) is that when you come up behind another vehicle, at stop lights for example, that the light is blinding to the people in front.

I tested this in my Commodore. Left the lights on in the prado, and sat in the drivers seat of the commodore and thought " If someone came up behind me i would find this mighty annoying"

Anyone else share these thoughts at all?

No worries with oncoming traffic... just from behind thats all.. especially because 4wds sit higher than your average vehicle!

It's a valid point you make speed_racer, but would this not also occur with just having normal headlights? That's why there is that little lever on the rear view mirror!

Re: HID Bi-Xenon High/Low Beam Installation

I guess so. I remember way back when i used to drive a *Lowered* car and a big fat 4wd sat behind me and it was so bright.. being blinded heaps was really annoying and i wouldn't want to be doing that to people at every set of traffic lights.

Does anyone else with this kit sometimes find that one side might not fire up the first time, and you have to switch the lights off and back on before they both come on?
Maybe it is a wiring issue or something.

Re: HID Bi-Xenon High/Low Beam Installation

              All these installations look fantastic!

My only conern is that although the brighter the lights get on your vehicle (espeically in a raised vehicle) means that whilst your vision on the road is improved markedly! Any oncoming traffics vision is impaired!

As I drive a smaller car to work and home each day ( half an hour on country roads), I find that 4wd vehicles, and especially those fitted with super bright lights, blind my vision for the final 2 secs approximately.I am sure that there maybe some legal repercussions in the future regarding accidents as more and more vehicles undertake these type of modifications without correct adjustments being undertaken. As I am about to get a 2" lift installed I will also have to get my lights adjusted to compensate. Last thing I want is for someone to crash into the Prado, due to my lights blinding them!

Also goes for travelling with a tow weight on that makes the rear of the vehicle sag! This inturn will throw out your headlights. (Unless auto levelling ones are installed!)

All my concerns being stated! I think the difference in the light is excellent! They definately look heaps brighter!

Re: HID Bi-Xenon High/Low Beam Installation

Just did mine using the XenonOz Professional kit; absolutely fantastic service and a great kit, really Plus and Play as advertised. The only complication is that for the LHS light I had to remove the battery to get to it easily.

Will have to do the XGT's next, as they look yellow and pale by comparison.

                Will post some pictures soon.

The kit I have is 6000k, not too blue, looks very white actually (which I guess is the point).

I've had them in for two weeks and so far I see nobody getting peeved with me on the road.

After a lot of persisting and mucking about, I finally went back to the Fatboys.

Especially after the lift, I couldn't get the things to be "just right" - I either annoyed the sh*t out of others (judging by the flashing lights) or they were adjusted so low that I might as well have driven with just the bloody parkers on... so enough was enough for me.

Shame though, 'cause I really think a properly executed HID setup would be the duck's nuts.

I take consolation in having the three HID driving lights for when the big guns are required!

I have a lift in mine as well, but still plan on setting them up. Can anyone tell me the light heights against a wall for low beam and high beam please (tape measure style).. I have the standard lights set as high as they can go and although i have not been flashed once i know that will change when the HID's go in.

                        Cheers

                            Hi Guys,

I just picked up a kit on fleabay for $115AUD + $15 postage. Seller was AE International (95soarer) which I think others have used in the past.

                            http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... SA:GB:1123

                            H4 HID KIT HIGH/LOW BEAM BI-XENON 4300K 6000K 8000K

I grabbed the 6000k ones. Couldn't believe the price so once they arrive I'll report back on the quality.

I was actually going to buy some fatboys since I am a bit concerned about the non ADR compliance of these kit installs, but it was going to cost me more to buy the fatboys, so I thought I was as well give these ago. Less wattage (35 vs 55/85) , less heat and longer usage rating (2000hrs vs 500hrs) I think its worth a crack.

My son has just put the in his Ford Typhoon and is pleased with them. He also got the 35w version. Why did you go that way? They have the 55w version as well. I have the single filament 55w in my Lightforces 240s and am happy.

                                Hi Martin,
I only noticed a 35 watt HID kit, but in any case my thinking was simple. Less power draw and less heat for the same result makes sense to me. I'm definitely not an auto electrician but I do spent a lot of time working with electronic equipment in big computer datacentres where heat output and power consumption are hot topics. Probably has no relation to this though I guess as I fit out the car, minimising power draw and heat outout where possible just leaves more power available elsewhere. Once again, I know squat about auto electricals at the moment, but hopefully my thinking is sound.

Because the fatboys were more expensive, drew more power and generated more heat than the HID kit I listed above, I went for the conversion kit. The HID kits are also supposed to have a longer operating life (2000 hours) than the fatboy bulbs (approx 500 hours). So for $130AUD inc posting I thought the kit was a good deal.

It should arrive this week so hopefully I'll get a chance on the weekend to do an install and test it out. If it doesn;t work out I'll bite the bullet and buy some fatboys as they seem to be a reasonable middle ground and at least they are legal.

                                Cheers,

                                Steve
