Not sure. The standard cat filter that comes with the kit is 3.9 inches.

One way to shorten the assembly is to remove the bowl and replace it with just a drain plug. This will reduce the water holding capacity so the housing will need to be drained more often and checked more often as there'll be no visual indication.

I know. Asked the dealer a few times and got the usuall "don't need to change it until the light comes on". Just didn't get around to it till now. Will change it every 40 000km now that I know first hand how easy it is.

          Hi Krypto,
Like you, I used the bolt holes on the Engine bay adjacent to the existing filter. Mounted no problems, no drilling or modifications required.
My TT filter is tight, with only a few mm between the drain hole and the car body. To replace the filter I unbolt the whole unit from the engine bay. My unit has been on for approx 40,000km and no problems so far.

Swapped out the 31865 with a short version 31863. This gives you more clearance for swapping, only downside is there is no bowl installed to view if there is water in the system, but based on the driving I do this shouldn't be a problem.

Does the bowl still screw into the shorter filter?

                Hi gxl_d4d,

It does, I just need to screw it in... I did't realise when I installed it, I just need to find some time to do it.

                  Thanks
When you fit the bowl can you please measure the length of the new cartridge. I'm up for a new filter. The CAT ones are 3.6" long (cartridge only, exclude bowl). If the one you used is shorter I'll give it a go.

Photo’s attached of the bowl installed. With the 31863 there's about 15-20mm of clearance below the drain plug, which is a lot more than the 31865.

Anyone know what the thread is on the connection coming out of the filter?

My fuel lines touch the firewall like in the picture above. I've put some armour on the fuel hose but I'd like to replace the straight barb with an elbow so the fuel line goes nowhere near the firewall.

                            Krypto,

The thread pitch is 1.25mm, the diameter is 13.7mm so M14 I think but double check. The thread is not tapered as the Cat pipe adapter is sealed with an o-ring.

Thanks for the pics with the tape measure. The filter you've got is the same length as the standard CAT filter, 156-1200.

I think I'll try a CAT 100-6374 which is the 30 micron version next.

Just a question about fitting the CAT filter (i'm about to do it), anyone notice any power drop off pushing fuel through a extra filter?. And am i better off fitting the 30 micron filter as gxl d4d mentioned above, or is the one it comes with ok?.
                                Cheers.
