    I know its not clear but really that is how it looks on the screen (hard to see and not very clear)

      When I inspected mine the light on the end made the mesh look quite shiny and couldn't seen anything on it. I've seen a pic somewhere on here of a semi-blocked one and there was little black clumps on it. I'll see if I can find it for ya.

          And post #25 of the same thread has a clean one. Does this one look like yours? Its a bit hard to tell from your picture.

            It looks blurry in the pic but it isn't any different on the monitor, i can make our the meat pattern JUST but its very hard to see and doesn't look like either pics
            I played with the brightness of the light and the brighter it is the more blurry it is but turn the light off and its total darkness.

            Im guessing that because i can make out the mesh its clear, but im only guessing and am a little nervous.

            I might blow some air up it on a small spot n have a look to see the difference

              I guess it was blocked, i just gave it a tap with a little air in a spot and a heap of oil came out and now i can see the pickup screen where I did it..

              Not sure if it is such a great idea to blow it all out though

                  Saw mine on the weekend after 90,000km, it was very clear and nothing like your first post. A shiny grill and no gloop in between the larger grill divisions like you had.

                  I'd say when ########## sees this he will suggest you may have a problem with your injector seals/sheets? l'll leave that for him to comment on and possibly confirm.

                    I reckon Brad has just had his injectors replaced, these D4D engines are getting expensive to maintain.

                      Sorry, I was a bit unsure here re the time scale. So this right after you had the injectors replaced, therefore the gunk is pre new injectors? If that is the case, it probably just needs to be cleaned as the new injectors and seals you had fitted would fix the cause of the gloop. The old sooty injectors were another indicator your previous injector sheets/seals were blown.

                      I'd say you could have just saved the engine.

                      BTW I spoke to Roo, he will pop in for a look soon and confirm.

                        Its a 2006
                        I checked the pickup 15,000 kms ago and it was definately clean and got injectors checked and they were within spec

                        So in the last 15,000 kms the injectors failed and caused this, I just got them replaced by a place in syd and they were
                        1- 1.1
                        2- -3.3
                        3- 0.6
                        4- -0.4

                        I also have photos of the egr blocked and inlet manifold clogged up, they told me the egr butterfly's were sticking.
                        One injector was the worse and was leaking up past the body and dribbling fuel on the piston (so i am told)
                        And only 2 of them had carbon build up on them.

                        Surprising to have it happen so quick but im wondering if the flush had something to do with it.

                        But I blew it out and flushed it out the bottom with fresh oil, then filled it up again and ran and dropped the oil again so will see soon off its still all clear
                        Motor has 148,000 on it and was told it still had old injector seals and injectors

                          Yeah lucky you were onto it before it became a lot more expensive issue Brad. Hopefully with it cleaned out you and your new injectors you will have many trouble free km's from it. I'd also be getting techstream if you don't have it already.

                            No dont have a tech stream, will look into it.

                            I've installed a cat water separator and am currently making brackets for a provent hp200 oil catch can so im trying to take as many precautions as i can as i want this motor to last

                            Lucky i was onto the injectors as well, im just really appreciative of all you prado point people that take the time to help people like myself out. As with out this info online engine failure would have been most likely

                                Yeh I did blow it out earlier and it cleared it, I know it prob would have blown some through but im leaving to drive to WA in 2 days and dont have time nor any money left (injectors wrecked me) to get it done.

                                After i blew it out i poured fresh oil through motor and let it drain out then filled motor up and ran it for 15min then dropped it again, do u think this will be ok like this.

                                The pickup screen is clear now and alot of hard chunky bits came out originally when I poured oil through the motor
