    • Nothing wrong with them, they were still working weren't they? Just ask your local Toyota dealer, he would agree.

Fruitcakes or boxes of chocolate - you just never know what you're going to get. But this forum still can't be beaten.

ps. Good to have the Roo back online.

          • Somebody at Melville Toyota seems to understand the problem. They are looking at supplying free a new short motor to my mate following the discovery that the oil pickup screen was totally blocked causing the emission of white smoke and suspected worn pistons/rings, etc. We wait with high anticipation of a positive result as he has no extended warranty.

                • Guys,

Checked my pickup screen via a camera and it has a reasonable amount of crud on it so intend to drop the sump pan and clean. I'm told that there's no gasket on the pan, you're supposed to use a sealant of some sort on it when it is refitted.

Can anyone who have dropped their sump advise what they have used for this? I imagine Toyota sell something but am happy not to pay the dealer markup.

                  Cheers,

                  Dave

                  • Locktite blue maxx 587 is good for that, we use it at work on the mining equipment all the time and it never leaks.

I found the last post on that thread interesting, it seems the european recall was not a recall after all. Copy of the post below:

"Latest update - Toyota refuses to get involved but I am still fighting.
There are some inconsistencies which people should be aware of:
                        1. Because this was not classed as a recall (but as a Customer Satisfaction Campaign) there was not written communication to owners.
                        2. The Toyota on-line Recall Checker tells me that my vehicle has no outstanding Recall nor "Voluntary Customer Service Campaign".
                        3. Customer Services tell me that a Customer Satisfaction Campaign is the same as a Voluntary Customer Service Campaign.
                        4. In its response to my email, Toyota tells me that because Customer Satisfaction Campaigns are not written forms of communication, they are not loaded into the Recall Checker database!!
                        5. Therefore I have asked why Toyota would include Voluntary Customer Service Campaign information in its Recall Checker site. It is totally misleading..
                        6. As part of the Campaign, dealers were told by Toyota to proactively contact owners. I bought the vehicle in Feb 2011 from someone who had used a dealer for service. He advises me he received no communication otherwise he would have told me.
It appears Toyota is using any excuse it can to avoid paying because the vehicle is now over 7 years old.........."

                        • The dreaded injectors in the D4D.

So I've fixed the dreaded injector seal issue in my '06 Prado and they told me that the injectors are on their way out. They (Toyota) said they're still operating within tolerance levels but will use more fuel and will probably need changing soon. The vehicle's done 168,000kms and they said that they've noticed a few Hilux's and Prado's with similar issues around the 200,000km mark. Has anyone else experienced this?

                          • Have a read of this

                            http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread...e-in-D4D-Prado

There will be an exam tomorrow.

There are several threads in the 120 and 150 section. Two main issues, injector seals failing and injectors failing. That is not including any problems caused by lousy fuel, water contamination etc.

Where are you based? Please edit your location in your profile, there may be someone local who can help you out. In addition there is the option of new injectors from Denso (same animal different box), new Toyota from overseas with supply from Rick in NZ or ex UAE and then a forum sponsor Baileys offer reconditioned injectors. It's all here.

                            EDIT: beaten by a Roo!

                              • Hi guys and girls,

First time poster, long time reader.

I purchased my 07 Prado with 113,000km on the clock earlier this year and have just recently become another statistic.

After a few months of loving the new beast (I upgraded from an 89 Hilux Surf with an endless number of issues so I was loving life) I noticed a slight rattle. From reading about the problems with the 1KD-FTV I was very concerned. I went back and forth to Toyota asking them to inspect the rattle and check the injectors. Toyota firstly couldn't fault the rattle and subsequently found the injectors to be in spec (I was briefly VERY relieved). However, they found low compression in cylinder four and I had to undergoe valve repairs due to a carbon build up at a cost of some $5,000 on top of the cost for the 120,000km service. Unfortunately, I picked up the car and on a cold start the rattle had not changed. I was NOT happy and immediately returned to Toyota. This time they found the injectors to be out of spec (specifically number four - a coincidence? I think not) and proposed replacing the set for a cost of $5,500. Now I was just shattered.

I have sinced had the set replaced by Cornell Fuel Injection in Sunshine, VIC, apparently the only company Australia wide authorised to repair and replace the Denso injectors (Toyota even send injectors to them to get parts replaced). I highly recommend these guys as they really seem to know what they are doing.

Car is running like a dream now and I am pursuing Toyota for costs of seemingly unnecessary repairs.

Anyway, thought I should let you all know about another 1KD-FTV injector victim.

                                Cheers,

                                Kaine
