here's a pic of my Catch can install... hope it's up there with the ones you guys have done
I do have a couple of concerns though...
1) would it matter which hose goes in what connection on catch can ( it's only thread on the underside of the can top )
2) it has a foam ( thin layer ) at the bottom of can... Can these be sucked out??Last edited by Prado44; 05-06-2014, 04:07 PM.

Copied my pics from another thread....just to help members searching??!!

Can was @$50 with no stuff inside (Billet racing from ebay). It came with some real poor hose and plastic type outlets but these were all replaced by a mechanic. It looked like garden hose!!
Had to bend @20-25mmm 3mm flat bar 90 degrees like an L shape for the can to sit on as a bracket. The rear x2 threads on the can are used on the upright L bracket to hold it. The holes for the bracket to mount up to the arch protrude out from the can. (Pic later).
The hardest part was making a spacer to hold the bracket up as the wheel arch is not flat! Need to add some insertion rubber underneath at a later date to prevent rattling etc. Will also paint it up later to prevent rust!
Some pics without the airbox

One of the best mods I've ever had done, as when the air intake was cleaned it was full of black crud, esp the throttle body, (oil mist from the EGR). This should alleviate that now. Will have to take the can out every now and again to clean, but better than in the air intake!?
I ordered the black colour to stop the dirt showing. There is a clear gauge how the side to tell you when it's full.

Hi, I just picked up a 4/2009 120 D4D GXL. 140,000 km, never been off road.
I previously had a 9/2003 120 GXL so looking forward to more power :-)
I changed all fluids and filters, inc 2 x fuel. Just can't get the front diff drain plug off....yet.
Fitted a 3" exhaust then decided to check out the intake condition.
cleaned MAF in airbox and intercooler brass airflow?? sensor (what is this one) in intercooler.
Blew bugs and crud out of intercooler (intercooler inside was clean with light oil film).
Butterfly valve (doser) was crusty black on the EGR side.
EGR was 20-30% blocked and full of buildup and I realised that my new exhaust was a waste of time until this is cleaned.
So the manifold will need to come off for cleaning and a catch can is in order....it might fix the whole engine wobble at idle. It drives well though but can always be better!!
QUESTION: Is $170 for the M&H Provent 200 off ebay OK? I assume you need to add a drain hose and tap to the bottom outlet.
Once I get one I'll look into where exactly it goes but have a rough idea after looking at the engine.Brook.

Got the can from here: http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item...d=291180719737
It's got a stainless gauze filter in it. The reason I didn't go with the provent 200 was size, it wouldn't fit where I wanted to mount it.Last edited by MRW82; 16-07-2014, 06:59 AM.

To remove diff plug you have to hit it hard with a hammer. Use a drift on the face of the plug if you do not wish to mark it. This seems rough but it is in the manual and once you hit it hard about three times it will then undo.
I also had hex socket on 1/2" drive bar which gives more leverage than an Allen key.

Tas.

Thanks, I'll give the front diff another go soon. I used a 1/2' drive impact bar today with 10mm hex bit - still no luck.
MRW82 - yes the ProVent 100 has a better form factor for squeezing in the engine bay. The 200 was a pain with a second battery fitted and is somewhat a 'bodgy' install for now.
The inlet system is now clean as a whistle (plenum chamber still has some coating I could not get off in the time I had), reassembled and runs great. The wobble at idle has gone and it's much more responsive and powerful.
A ProVent200 catch can has been fitted to stop it happening again.
I reused the steel fuel lines with no issue.
This job takes a lot of time as a home mechanic (I have a second car luckily) and you need the right tools to finish it. The most handy tools were a telescopic magnetic pickup, a telescopic mirror, 17mm crowsfoot spanner with torque wrench and a few different length wobble bars. The toolbox is now much healthier, as is the annual profit of Totaltools.
I am considering use an intake cleaner to get the remaining plenum chamber coating and the gunk in the inlet ports/head/combustion chambers that I could not get to. Maybe also an injector cleaner in the tank.
Brook.
