  • Well good news for those located in Sydney, BP is finally selling Ultimate Diesel here. Filled up a couple of days ago and the lack of foaming was clearly evident.

    • Hi all,
Just bumping this thread for the latest wisdom.
Unfortunately the end of my novated lease (thanks Krudd) means surrendering my BP fuel card and from next month I'll be paying for fuel out of my own pocket. Is it generally accepted that BP Ultimate Diesel is the best and most expensive? How does this scale run from value for money through to cheap and nasty? What brands are the folks on here buying?
      Cheers,
      Rob

We don't have BP Ultimate in Vic. I try for Shell first, then BP, then Caltex, and never United or Liberty. I get increased engine noise with Caltex and with the last 2 I have heard to many horror stories about contaminated fuel.

        • I kinda have to laugh at this - as here in Hobart, tankers come in and fill the bulk tanks - and then it is distributed to the resellers. BP, Shell, Caltex - all come from the same bulk tanks. BP Ultimate Diesel just doesn't exist down here (to the best of my knowledge). Primarily fill with Shell for Flybys.

PS i think the main objective here is to find a servo with clean tanks as the fuel will change if dumped into dirty tanks!

Well, like a lot of other people - got a 30 Micron PreFilter/Water Separator installed. Just waiting on my filter to arrive for the primary and secondary tanks.

              • I won't touch Shell if I can avoid it as I see how the biodiesel gets loaded and comes out of the tanker .
For us ppointers in Melbourne who want to use shell not all service stations have Bio but you have to know what service stations get trucks out of Geelong or just fill up with B5.

                • BP and Shell both have a warranty on their fuel where Caltex does not as far as I know if that makes a difference for you. .

Don't you get your fuel for free - just syphon some off out of your tanker every now and then?

Dave i wish, when you carry 46500- 52000 ltrs of diesel and you cant get a drop it's annoying.

Cootes if you still call them that on the Shell contract.

I could also do BP, Caltex but stay on Shell.

For your information : Caltex 46 cetane, Shell 49 cetane. All independents use these two brands so no going there, at least for me.

BP for me......apart from using fuel other than BP when I did my last Simo trip. Always use BP.

                              • An old thread, but worth noting that I have always filled up my work 2007 D4D Hilux with United Diesel because their service station has 6 or 8 Diesel pumps and I don't have to wait. My ute did 200,000km without any issues until I upgraded to an SR5 in June.

Most of our company D4D Hiluxes fill up with United or Woolies Diesel, and we have never had injector problems. One of the utes was just traded at 278,000kms.
