Simple air box Mod... Dust Seal

Gday all, Just a quick word for those who may be having dust weep past their air filter and into the top half of their air box... This is what i found...



As you can see dust has been making its way past the seal on the Genuine Toyota filter and making its way into my intake.
I bought some rubber door seal.. this is the gear.





I applied the seal around the sealing edge on the top air bor box lid.



An easy mod that has now given the top lid a tight seal on the air filter... the clips are very firm to clip on now... Job finished in 10 minutes.

Whilst Im here i will show you a pic of the effectivness of my snorkel pre cleaner... I actually cleaned this filter 2 weeks ago... It really stops crap entering the air box



And the filter is still very clean..



Have a look at the intake on the snorkel head... clean as a whistle...



For a couple of simple DIY's the air box can be protected quite easily.

2 weeks!? I have to do mine every 2 days!**

But since I've been using the pre cleaners I've been able to get a whole service interval out of my air filter



**If proper offroad, I end up doing it every day, if not twice a day. It pays to have a few to change around.

Mine looks like that (if not worse) after two days though... usually.

What's to go with using the pre filters on d4d's guys? I have heard its a no no, but would like to hear others thoughts?

Pmsl!!! Gold ;-) I'm surprised how well mine is seeling with the cooper filters in. And yea I have a pre filter at home (the in head type) just not 100% sure... And u know how anal I am.......

PMSL!!!! Gold!! I'm surprised how well my cooper filters are sealing, once i get to my laptop I will post up the pics of the comparison we did. Sad to see genuine units arnt sealing as well tho

Mate to be honest I dont think it is the filters, I think the top lid on the air box has flexed over due to the Uni Filter that I recently took out.. the seal was much thicker check the pic out... uni on the left - toyo on the right..



I think the uni filter flexed the top lid where the clip catches on... I think the prolonged use of the uni caused the plastic to fatigue in some way and not seal on the standard filter when reinstalled... I guess what I have done is I have made the seal thicker to compensate for that.

Poor Wooley, nevers wants to be tail end charlie in case his pre-cleaner gets dirty...
Ive seen him get out the ice cream tub and give em a wash in the bush, then again this guy also carrier more tools in the bag of his rig then my diesel mechanic uncle does in his van!
