Excellent result mate. I never use anyting but Caltex and in 8000km have not needed to fill up anywhere else. At least if I were to get some dodgy fuel I know where it came from. Gee I love 180ltr tanks

I dunno much about the oil refinery process between different companies, but I have always managed around 11.5 l/100km with my 'old' 1KZ-TE using only Shell Diesel. I always get at least 1400km before refuelling, mixed hwy and traffic. Why is Shell fuel so bad? Any experts ????

Yep Mark, certainly glad I asked. Don't know of any reason why I should get better results but I can only go on actual figures. Caltex from here on in ( and they give you 8c off also, 4 + 4 = $12 for 150l)

                Re: Excessive fuel useage

Gidday, thought i would add my two bobs worth regarding fuel consumption, I have a 4 litre GXL auto (done 60KS) and just completed the christmas run from Sydney to Brisbane to be with the grand kids etc. Fuelled up in sydney and again when i arrived in Brisbane and returned figures of 11.7 litres per kilometre. On the way home leaving Brisbane with full tanks and fuelled up when we arrived in Sydney 1008 ks used 114.39 litres for 11.3 litres per 100 ks.

I am running new Toyo tyres @ 40 psi and drive to the speed limit with two adults and waeco fridge, dual battery setup usual luggage + golfclubs.

                Cheers

                    Re: Excessive fuel useage

Not sure about down south but here in Darwin all our diesel comes from singapore and all fuel stations get their fuel from the same bulk storage tanks

                      Re: Excessive fuel useage

We did a short road trip of 1400 klms last week and I averaged 13l / 100, and I reckon it went up as soon as I fitted the Cooper ATR's. I was consistently getting 10.5 to 11l / 100 for all types of driving on the Grandtreks. Engine has now done 45,000 klms and I put cleaner through it regularly.

Have you stepped up in size with the ATRs? ie 70 series from the original 65? Have you allowed for this change in your calculation?

                        It's a 1kz ??

Mines very consistant over the life of the car dispite my mods. (lift, bar, Muddies, chip, boost lift, drawers blah blah blah...)

Last tank- 11.7 l/100 100% Metro driving (daily grind for work)

6hrs of low range work at Morgan plus a return trip of 150km hwy 12.8l/100.

Over life of car- 11.5 l/100 ( with a best of 10.3 with no mods/metro driving, and a worst of 14.8 towing camper/ fully loaded through outback)

Straight hwy/ tame metro driving (keep up with traffic... no boy racer stuff ) 10.7l/100

Mines a manual, I notice the autos are much less forgiving to mods/driving style.

It's a 2006 1KZ auto, 265/65/17 ATR's. I drive it now in exactly the same manner as I always have, very gently.
