Just replaced the SCV. Tech stream showed the target and rail pressure not to bad.
Reason I replaced it was the new engine still smoked a lot more than I thought it should.
Tech stream result for new SCV didn't show any real difference, but under full load little to no smoke.
Maybe this should be another one of the things we replace every 120000 km.

Hi ####,
My 120 is back in the shop - I think I have a dud SCV as it has the same symptons again. Hoping its that and not injectors again anyway...
Being told also that my (baileys recommended) repairer hasn't warranted the SCV and I can have the dud part and raise the matter directly with Denso??
This SCV is only 6 months and 10k old - am I just unlucky or would you expect Denso to chip-in the costs to replace?
(Assuming my highly unqualified diagnosis is actually correct)Cheers
Micheal.

Well the plot thickens!
My SCV (and everthing else for that matter) has apparently checked out 'ok' on their computer diagnostic and they cant audibly hear the rattle (warm engine it is quieter and age is not on his side in regards to hearing it...) so I have asked them to leave it there for the night and take it for a run in the morning.
There is a definate 'chatter' when cold and I can make it chatter when warm/hot too, surely this is not normal!Cheers
Micheal.

very interesting rusty, thanks for sharing this bit of info. I've had concerns about excessive smoke under load since my rebuild too. have quite a few work mates mention to me that it puffs quite a lot after following me.
just done an injector feedback test and the readings are brilliant, highest is 0.8-1.0 and total is in the 6's. but i noticed the fuel pressure is bouncing quite a bit. 27,000 to 33,000 which from what I have researched is out of spec.
looks like I should try a new SCV and see if I get an improvement.
have you had any improvement in fuel economy? mine isn't terrible, but not as good as I exepcted it to be after the rebuild, and not as good as before....

Here's some info, I have had faulty Scv's. My supplier sorted the part replacements. I wore the labour.
So people you might not want to buy these sort of parts from overseas suppliers. Warranty may be difficult.
Baileys injectors are usually much quieter. Just because you have NEW or BDG injectors, it des not guarantee a quiet engine.
These engines do make some interesting sounds. Some are very quiet. Some make noises when warmed up.
So as long as the numbers are right & there are no other issues, I'd say not to worry about any noise too much.
If it is very noisy you can try & chase it but it could get costly.
First cause of engine knocking or rattle is Injectors.
Second is abnormal common rail pressure.
Then you have friction between parts & compression.
Check compensation codes.
Check for fuel leaks.
Intake system leakage or blockage? Egr soot?
Could be a bad sensor, fuel pressure, map or maf sensors?
Vehicle mods or bad fuel
Hard to say without seeing it. Or hard even if I saw it. :???:
I hope that helps.

One thing to note if I drive like Mis Daisy for a couple of weeks, then put the trailer on the back I can make the world come to an end. Or at least look like it. After a few hundred km the smoke will all but disappear so I'm thinking it is more of a soot build up in the cat and manifolds. Maybe I need to drive with a bit more gusto and get more boost to blow out the soot.
We went camping over Easter and as it rained for a couple of days the solar panel was useless so we idled the motor for several hours to charge batteries and heat the water for showers. When we packed up on the Monday morning and left the campsite a mixture of black and blue smoke was seen. So we may have a small oil leak out the turbo, not enough to warrant a rebuild.

Yep the old kz has done 300 thousand hard kays and she doesn't play well with hills these days.
Im looking for a simple explanation rather than accepting the obvious... its a KZ...HERS - KZJ120, BILSTIEN / KINGS, AMTS GEAR, RHINO GEAR, OUTBACK DRAWERS ETC ETC ETC
