Had a word to Baileys and they advised it may be the Suction Control Valve (SCV). So, booted up the Techstream and here are the cold and hot readings.
Number 1 and number 3 can be as bad as +2.2 and -2.4 respectively, but they come good when hot (see attachments).
The Target Common Rail Pressure varies from 29000 kPa up to 37000 kPA but goes rock steady on 35000 kPA when hot. I'm not convinced it is the SCV.
But, since it's a pretty easy part to replace and seeing Amayama have them priced at 181.57 AUD.

I'm no mechanic, but I'm thinking the SCV fluctuates when cold, because it is trying to control erratic fuel flow through the cold injectors ??

Anyway, once I receive the new SCV, I'll get some techstream readings before and after it is fitted and post them here. Will also be interesting if it rectifies the cold rattle.
You need to look at the actual & how well it chases the target.
Usually the target is up UNTILL it warms & then it should be 35000 at idle.
Also rev it up & watch the actual chase the target, rise & fall it should be right behind it.
So no big fluctuations, or if its to slow to follow the target, get a new one.

Just watched the YouTube video and about to install my new SCV. Do you need oil the 'O' rings as suggested and do you need to tap it in gently with a hammer? Seems a bit full on for such a sensitive part.
What size hex head is it. 1/4" as suggested by #### seems to big on mine. (I may have pulled the wrong size out of the tool box though)
Sorry about the silly questions but thanks in advance.

Not sure how much from Baileys. Mine was $221.00 ($181 plus $40 postage) from Amayama.

No need to tap it in. When you remove the old SCV, the O-ring will come out attached to the SCV, the basket may stock to the pump. Remove the gasket. Clean the O-ring and gasket and dry it being careful to keep them clean and dust free.

Once the O-ring is dry, lube it up with diesel and slip it over the new SCV. Put the gasket on the SCV. The O-ring will hold it centered on the SCV.

Push the SCV and gasket back into the pump. You may need to slight rotate the SCV back and forth a few times to get the O-ring all the way home as it's a tight fit. You won't need to tap it in. Once in place, put the bolts back in and plug the connecter in.

I can't recall the allen key size.

            5mm hex. 1/4 drive.
            Don't hit or hammer anything!!!!!!!!!
Molycote on the o-ring to keep o-ring in place.
Keep it all super clean, if you get dirt in the back of the pump, it will be sad.

                New SCV installed

                G'day,
Thought I'd add a couple of shots of the install.
Removal wasn't too difficult. Just a bit fiddly getting the far side hex bolt engaged with the driver, but it cracked very easily. Remove the fuel line to get better access.

Got a bit of a surprise when comparing the old with the new, I thought I'd been sent the wrong part, but it looks like it has been redesigned. See pic's.
The two extra threaded posts received in the packaging are alignment tools that you screw into the pump to assist when you're fitting the new SCV.

After install I checked it all on Techstream and the Target Rail and Fuel Pressure don't seem as erratic. The Injector values look a lot better, although it wasn't particularly cold. So, I'll do another cold test. Also, need a cold drive to see if the cold knock has gone or reduced.

Bailies sent me the short one which matched what came off the vehicle.

With 120 prados, you want to looks at replacing the Scv from around 180k.
The 150's, so far so good, lets see. They have the longer unit.
Use the genuine Toyota part, it's a longer unit, better we think, upgraded we r told.
