Acceleration lag issue

Hi there,

I have 03 120 series 3L prado and was wondering if anyone had problems them At all? I find when I take off that there is a really lag problem to the point if I don't ride the clutch she will stall. Same thing happens on a steep Hill too. Does anyone have any ideas at all? Someone was telling me that it might be a diesel pump? Any help would be great!

Hi Bunjie, Welcome to Pradopoint!
Can't help you with your issue unfortunately ( proud V6 owner!), but may I suggest before posting in future you have a read of the forum rules and get familiar of the "do's & don'ts" of the forum. First example for you bunjie is the title of you first post with a new thread. It's better for all if a bit of the subject matter be titled ( e.g. "Acceleration lag issue" or the like. It makes it a heck of a lot easier for others to search on the specific topic at a later date, which is what you may be able to use to find others that have also experienced the same problem. This post ( & new thread just created) could also probably have been placed in to a better section such as "120 Diesel" topics also.
After all that, chuck up a post in the Introductions thread and tell us a little about yourself!

It could be a lot of things. Given its a 03 I presume it not a low mileage engine.

Start with the easy and cheap, is the air filter clean?

Check all the pipes around the Turbo, any leaks or splits?

How long since the injectors were replaced? If you do change them maybe do the glow plugs while your going (glow plugs shouldn't cause your current issue)

Apart from the things Craig Mentioned, its useful if you can give as much pertinent info as possible, such as how many K's its done, all these things help.

Good to see a new face "jump in" with a question. Don't take the advice above the wrong way. We all fall foul of the system in the early stages. After you have been here a while you will get the hang of it. I do take bribes and will beat the c$%p out of anyone that upsets you. Now, hopefully one of the more knowledgeable members will give you a decent response. That is something I don't excel at....

If it runs ok when it gets going but gutless off the mark, check the fuel filter. The pump may be struggling to pull fuel through a blocked filter until the RPM picks up.
