Love my old 2003 oiler, rock solid after 200k+. Went to have a look at a new one and the condition on showroom floor was real crap. Dirty everywhere so told them to come have a look at a shiny clean engine bay and never had degreaser near it, only the odd truck wash CT18 if left over after washing vehicle.
After reading all the problems with common rails in all brands, would rather spend $12 to $16k on a new motor as the body is as new.John

I have 2008 Diesel and it blow injector last week, looks like motor is totalled! in the Pilbara so repairs will cost a mint.
in the latest 4X4 mag is states that the D4D failures are making the Nissan look good.
when repaired I will be looking for alternatives instead of the standard Toyota we have had for the past 2 generations.

Hey, I'm on number 2 major engine issues.
This time, thankfully it is going to be covered by insurance - contaminated fuel. Independent report is worth its beans.
Just like last time #1 cylinder is shown signs of bore scoring.....'04 120 Petrol Flinders Red GXL

Hey all,
Just out of curiosity, is anyone aware of injector problems in the 70 series V8 engine?

When I was younger I had a friend who bought a 98 model Hyundai Excel new with 15km on the clock. They never had it serviced. A few of us offered periodically just out of respect for vehicles, but were still respectfully declined. They only had the original running in oil changed for the first time at 120,000km and it dripped out like clumps of Nutella. The only other thing replaced under the bonnet was the battery. And you know what? The car drove perfectly the whole time with no issues. I'd hate to be the person who bought it afterwards as you'd inherit issues later on, but amazing really. So a new $63,000 name brand car having major problems at 80,000km is definitely not on. Common sense should prevale.
The only car I had mechanical issues with was my first car in 1997 which was a 79 model Sigma with 330,000km on it. 3 weeks after I bought it the head went and then one month later the rings went. Had the motor re-conned and the valves kept going. Had the valves fixed twice under warranty before ditching the car as it was a $1,500 lemon. If I bought a new car and had any mechanical probs with it prior to 200,000km I'd be ropable. You should expect return for your money and when forking out $60,000+ I'd expect a lot of return and it goes without saying I'd expect to drive over 1,000km from home and be able to return without the car being mechanically disabled and being quoted the likes of $4,000+ for repairs. No offence to those who own one but I'd most likely never buy a diesel 4wd in my lifetime as they seem to come with so many associated problems across so many models. The risks of a breakdown or catastrophic engine failure are hugely magnified. The information's out there and almost everybody knows someone or had fleet vehicles at their work which are/were diesels that had the most rediculous of problems and be told by the dealership that it's normal and you have to pay for the repairs. The worst and most widespread problems I've heard of personally have been with diesel Holden Captivas. Like the injectors commonly failing at 40,000km and being told by the Holden Dealership that this is normal for diesel Captivas.Last edited by Brett1979; 28-06-2015, 11:29 PM.2005 120 series V6 Grande, 2 inch susp lift (King/EFS combo), 32 inch MT’s, Safari Snorkel, rear diff lock, breathers, Light Force spotlights, UHF, dual batteries.
