Travelling from Coffs Harbour to Newcastle, towing a small caravan, when five kilometres outside Tuncurry I noticed a slight loss of power and a rattling noise when pressed the accelerator. Luckily I was close to a Toyota garage so thought all would be OK. On first inspection they thought we had a faulty injector on No 4 cylinder. However three days later we were told that we had a cracked Piston which will cost between $8 -15K to repair. I have owned the car since new and it has been Toyota serviced regularly and up until now has never had any issues. The car has only done 80,000kms in the less than six years but the warranty has now expired. We have now been stuck here now six days waiting for Toyota to make a decision over whether they will do the repairs under warranty or not. Reading other threads on this site this appears to be a known fault and one Toyota seems to be ignoring. Has anyone else had a similar experience at such a low mileage?

Welcome to the club.
Many people have gone through your experience. I personally know two.
Chances are Toyota have already decided to deny the claim and you're just being dicked around for appearances. I'm guessing they know you're away from home so time and money are not on your side.
You may get some kind of recompense but I will be extremely surprised if the answer is anything but "D" for denied.

Unlucky. Mine went at 73,000km but I had extended warranty. Cost them $12k. Took them 8 weeks to fix.Dave

Rod, you must be very disappointed, with information in your post, what you have sounds a bit like what is a relatively regular occurrence. have a read here. http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread...e-in-D4D-Prado
There have been many gone before you, and lots of people like yourself that find the forum when they have this problem. Some intimate taking toyota to small claims and the like. Although rarely are the results of such actions posted.
You may have a case and it may be worth trying.

Rod,
The injectors need checking at each service, it's not part of the service schedule & obviously Toyo don't give a sh!t.
The cracked piston is likely to be, because your Injectors are no longer functioning correctly/over fuelling.
Such low Klm's, & Toyo service, I think they might cover it, & if not definately worth chasing it, no magistrate is going to think 80k is acceptable, it's NOT!!!
Ask them for the injector feedback values, every one that has popped it's cherry, that I have seen the injector numbers, they are well out of spec.
If you have to pay, consider the long motor, with new injectors, I'm told they are down under 10k+ fitting.
Or, perhaps head off, sump off, 4 new pistons & rings, will be as good as new. Cheaper option that one.
All the best with it.

In my case the car was regularly serviced by Toyota and serviced less than 6 weeks before it went bang. There was never any rattle nor smoke. It stalled whilst driving (out in the desert a long way from anywhere) and refused to re-start, just blew plumes of white smoke and shook violently.Dave

I thought mine was bad!!!!, i got to 260ks before it cracked 2 pistons (were original injectors) but was still going just rattle when cold and over fuelling with new injectors. I got mine fully rebuilt, inc new head, radiator and all hoses, only thing went back in were the injectors (were new) and the turbo was fine. Cost $7,500 drive in drive out. I didn't think that was too bad.2016 1GD GXL 6 speed auto, ARB colour coded summit bar, LED driving lights, duel batteries, BF Goodrich tyres, window tint.

NCAT is you friend.....take Toyota Aus to Tribunal and they will fold. There is far to much evidence in your favour. There are a number of cases on this forum worth printing off and using as evidence. As stated above the member (that's what they are called by BTW) at the Tribunal will state that clearly you can expect more the 80k out of a motor particularly when serviced by the book. You can even hit them up for accommodation costs and car hire etc if you feel the need.2010 150 Glacier White GXL D4D Auto

Good news, Toyoto have come to the party and have now agreed to pay the full costs of repair. Hopefully we will have it back Friday if the parts arrive as promised. Interesting to read all the threads and we will certainly be asking Toyota about when in the future we should be getting diagnostic scans of the injectors. Lost a bit of faith in diesel Prado's though.
