Operation of fuel gauge on 2004 3L 1KZ GXL

Can someone explain to me how the single fuel gauge operates in my 2004 GXL 1KZ diesel Prado. What happens to the half tank of fuel in the first tank when the thing switches to the second tank and the green 90L light comes on? The switch from tank one to the second tank occurs at about half a tank. It seems to use the remaining half of the first tank as it using the second tank. My owners manual is delightfully vague this.

I have seen references to a jet pump that transfers fuel from somewhere to somewhere else. I imagine from tank 1 to tank 2.

Also where is a good place to buy a workshop manual?

As far as I can remember When the light comes on it means the rear tank is empty.
There is a Venturi that sucks the fuel from the rear tank into the front one as your engine takes fuel from the front tank only.

There is probably a lot of forums on this but when it gets down to half the 90L light comes on and then the gauge goes back up to full and you are now using the second tank.

If you fill both tanks you gauge will show FULL with NO GREEN LIGHT.

From here the gauge will only drop to half way and fuel usage will be around 95-100 litres

Once GREEN LIGHT is LIT gauge will shoot back up to full again.

You then have around 70-80 litres remaining.

I think from previous threads every one is around the same with First tank after fully filled getting them the most amount of Kms.

For me after filling the first tank is around 700-800kms then last tank around 400-500kms
