Mine has just started the cold knock. Happened in kosciuszko national park (had a week off) a couple of weeks ago. Coming from Brisbane not usual to have cool temperatures under 10 deg. Have 150000 and will have injectors replaced before winter comes to town. Not sure where to take the car, but K M Diesel in Brendale come well credentialed.
Has anyone had injectors done on the north side of Brisbane lately and advise costs etc?08 VX D4D, Lift, Safari Snorkle, Trailblazer Fridge, Custom Storeage System, BFG, ARB Safari Bar, Wife, Kids, Codan NGT HF Radio, Debt.

Clock up another dead 2007 D4D gents. A friend of a mate of mine just had one of his pistons fail. Interesting that he had reported the "death rattle" at his previous service and they just told him he needed a software update and then charged him for it!!
Toyota are now claiming the old contaminated fuel crap.....I sent him the link to this and other related threads and told him to also PM some of the guys that have been in the same boat. He is also just out of warranty so his battle begins......2010 150 Glacier White GXL D4D Auto

Add mine to the list boys. 2007 120 Prado Dead. Motor to be rebuilt at 124,000 km. Had it to them a couple of years ago under warranty with the knock, they flashed the ECU. (Got paperwork for warranty work). Told me it was all good now. I went back, told them it was still knocking... was told that is normal. Got a computer plugged in to the injectors, (Out of warranty, No paperwork) told all injectors were within spec. Now she no go. Of course now they are blaming the Steinbauer chip, and told me as a "guesstimate" it will cost me $10-$12000 to rebuild it. And Toyota STILL say there is no need for a recall on the injector problem in Aus. Bloody Toyota.Last edited by aarondownton; 20-03-2013, 04:01 PM.View my Buildup here - http://www.pradopoint.com/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=6127

Gee, this is scary stuff. My 07 GXL has 74,000kms on it and its been knocking for a little while now. The extended warranty finished a few weeks back. The noisy injectors have been mentioned to Toyota a few times now and they say they are fine and within spec.
This is pure ignorance on Toyotas behalf. I thought owners of early GU patrols with the early ZD30 were getting the cold shoulder from Nissan Australia. Seems like history is repeating itself here, albeit, this time with Toyota.
What should I do? Do I voluntarily pay for a new set of injectors now? I've put 6 bottles of Toyota diesel injector cleaner through it, and as suspected, the issue seems more serious.07 White GXL D-4D & 6 Spd Manual. Sovereign Bar with 3 LF 240's. Have you had the feedback values checked? That is the first step. Also get the oil pump screen inspected for build up, this means dumping the oil but it is important.
if yours is a pre Dec 07 build you don't have the latest injectors. And probably have the bare copper injector seals. While it is far from certain I believe there are two mechanisms to failure. The first is the injectors failing / wearing out. This prevents the injector from atomising the fuel properly and excess fuel can pool on the piston and cause piston failure. If the seals fail the combustion chamber gases leak into the rocker space and cook the oil that is lying up there. This carbonised oil becomes a sticky sludge that can block the oil pump strainer and starve the engine of oil. This means not enough oil for lubrication and cooling. Bearings can fail but so can pistons bind due to lack of cooling oil spray under the pistons. The Roo and Skywalkerrun have posted some excellent info here.
You can try to fight Toyota and Roo and others can give you some pointers but if the injectors are out of spec or the strainer blocked don't stuff around and get it all fixed first, then fight with Toyota. Going price with Denso injectors is around $3k up here. Not sure what costs are in the Deep South. My 150 build - http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread.php?27423-A-Random-approach-to-a-Bluestorm-150-GXL-D4D-automatic

Thanks mjrandom. I'm well aware of the potential issues :-(
Mine is a March '07 model so yeah, I have the troublesome ones.
I got a quote over the phone from a diesel specialist to have the feedback values checked - $150. Will get in done soon.

Replacing injectors at 130k
Oh boy, I might be in a world of hurt then....
Mine is 2nd owner, and has 174K on the clock.
I did search this forum, but I'm not 100% sure if I have an injector issue or not. Figures AFTER I bought it, that what appears as a petrol engine burning oil happens sporadically on stating. Doesn't matter if she is warm or cold, sometimes it is a huge cloud, other times a puff - then it doesn't happen at all.
I did take it into Co-Op Toyota here in Hobart, and mentioned the issue. Suggested at SOME point that we MIGHT look at replacing the seals on the injectors (though, if one pays for the labour to that, one would just replace the injectors!) or the EGR might need cleaning....
Thought I am going to see about some diesel EGR cleaner and see what happens.'04 120 Petrol Flinders Red GXL

Change out those seals and check your oil pick up screen as a matter of urgency.
Trust me -thats a cheap option.
If the oil pick up screen is not blocked its not so urgent....
