    #1 Cylinder Scored

Engine is being sent out (from what my mechanics have said) and being "re-engineered" - I'd love to say it would be blueprinted as well.

Well then, the big ends will probably be buggered as well. Might be cheaper to put in a whole new short engine. That's what I have done with my last three rebuilds. Part number 11400-30290, from Toyota.
Are you recomending to buy from $oyota or just giving $oyota's part number or both? ... Lol

Is $oyota this cheap!... Click Link below

      Cheers

PS +1 0n the whole new short engine if block is damaged.

      • I feel your pain. 20,000km on my new engine and all going well. 4500 on this current trip without any dramas. Touch wood.

            • Might be cheaper to buy the whole car thru Amayama $60k drive away for GXL here, $30k saving you can have two for the price of 1! Wouldn't that be lovely.

G'day Adam! I bumped into your sis at the footy today and she mentioned you were having an epic trip - for all the wrong reasons! Sorry to hear mate. Hope things improve from here!
After reading a few pages of this thread I think the best course of action d4d owners could take is to upgrade to a petrol 90 series
                Cheers, Ben.

                • Diag injector volumes

Scratches head, injectors appear to be in range +3mm to -3mm #3 is the worst.

This is with the ignition on but not running.

At bit of a loss as to the white smoke on cold start, maybe glow plugs?

This weekend ill run the active test cutting injection to each cylinder to see if one is misbehaving.

                  http://www.geektech.co.nz/service_1kd-ftv.pdf

Reading the service bulletin i should have read the values with the engine idling so will re do the test.

One thing i noticed is the Injection Volume value is 24mm which is twice the value specified in the service bulletin.

                  • Question: When a D4D is switched off and all injectors are sealing correctly will the common rail retain some pressure or when switched off will it drop to zero?

My thinking is one of the injectors is leaking (not sealing because of an internal deposit) and this allows the residual pressure in the common rail to drop to zero when switched off while it drops the excess diesel into the combustion chamber. And this is where my white smoke is coming from on start up.

Please feel free to point me in the right direction if my thinking is off.

Have you ever bought one from over there, mate?
Over here, it costs just under $9,000.00, the last one I worked on. That was a special mining price in January of this year.
It would be great to buy them for $2,891.00, as in the UAE price. If Amayama did bring one in for you, you would get hit with gst and duty, but that would bring it to about $4,000.00. This would still be really good, providing the delivery cost wasn't a big bill.
This would bring the whole rebuild to in between $10,000.00 and $12,000.00, if you got all the parts through Amayama, the 50% savings thing, e.g. injectors, gaskets, etc, etc.. That's better then $18,000.00.
I don't muck around when I do this job, replacing the timing belt, the tensioner, the idlers, water pump, thermostat, head bolts and head gasket, even the main coolant hoses, etc, etc....
You have to set up the timing gears, the balancing shafts, the sump, etc, etc.. Look, pretty well everything except for the piston and crankshaft assembly. It's a big job, and you can expect to be off the road or tracks for at least two weeks from the time that the job actually starts with the mechanical side of the things.

Your not calculating freight there roo...
A box about 600 square with 4 air filters and a harmonic balance cost me $140 in freight...
A short block delivered to kunanarra will cost ship loads!!!

I hope your not getting Argyle motors to do it mate. They dont have a very good rep up there! When our injectors were on their way out, we waited until we got to Darwin to get them fixed!
But I guess if your stuck there, you've got no choice ay mate?

                        • Hi Guys new to this site and my eyes are burnt from information overload and a little stressed. I have a Prado aswell which i dont drive very often as i work away, the wife drives it. (the bosses car) Now i cant remember if its a 07 or 08 model. Now Just the other day as explained in other posts on here started car in the morning and a puff of smoke came out the back. Whitish in colour.
Please bear with me as im just trying to work this out and any help of what i should do well accepted. I'll probably answer my own questions here.
My first queston is the smoke is it a fowled injector or from a seal letting go in the injector that everyone is talking about.
I guess my first move as explained a few times is to drain oil and check oil screen, is this correct.
From here i dont know what to do??
Should i take it too a specialist or toyota and get the injector values read. Then if they come back ok should i just get the seals and washers replaced or just do the whole lot (mortgage the house)

                          Please help.
########## im also in brissy and would love to hear your advice.

                          • Quick note just found these injectors. Are they any good and has anyone tried them or is it best to get genuine oem. If so does anyone no of someone who sells them cheaper than toyota dealer.

                            Thanks Sean

                              Hey Sean;

The 'most likely' cause is going to be the injector seals. To explain it simply, the combustion sealing washers flog out, and essentially, as you let it sit overnight, a small amount of oil leaks past this washer, and bingo, when you start it, white smoke. Most commonly, people experience it worst when they park the car nose down (ie, pointing downhill).

As pointed out, if this is the case, be more worried about carbon leaking into the oil when driving, then the oil into the cylinder (which is also not a good thing). When ever we get 'carboned' used injectors back, we always recommend that they get their oil pick-up / strainer checked...

                              hope this helps.

Hey Sean (again - didn't realize it was the same bloke!)

we actually sponsor this forum and newhilux.net There's a bunch of feedback on our baileys blueprinted injectors thread, start looking from about page 6 onwards.

You will also notice that down in the sponsors section here, that there's some answers to the more common theme. We've actually done about 4-5 cars that I know of from people who have viewed this forum, but i think many were from Google, and therefore haven't posted which is a little disappointing, but to be expected.

At the moment, we're doing hundreds of these little injectors weekly (and are selling to a bunch of Toyota dealers!), are running shifts to keep up and offer twice the warranty that DENSO / Toyota will offer on items they charge twice as much for... we think our items are a better option and we put our money where our mouth is!
