  • I'm also intrested in one of these testers that roo's talking about as i know of 4 other D4D's both hilux and prado not including mine. Just on a side note, i cleaned the EGR,elbow and throttle body today and i was suprised it wasn't too bad considering it's done 192ks. No were near as bad as some of the one on the hilux forums!. I didn't do the inlet manifold as i didn't think it was real bad plus i would run out of ability pulling it off. I did notice it's runs quieter than before so worth doing goes about the same i reckon,
    Cheers.

      • John what are the exact specs of the Denso unit? I might get a mate in Japan to price one up for me. Be worth the exercise to see what they are worth without the Australia tax.

I don't think he believed me when I told him what was going on. Anyway, he did get the vehicle towed home.
Well, I rang Denso Australia yesterday, about the Toyota Intelligent Tester Tool II. It turns out that Toyota Australia have a contract with DA, and they can only sell the units here in Australia to Toyota dealerships.
            So there you go.
            The Roo.
Thats a bit anti-competitive. So in theory you should be able to purchase them off Toyota? I wonder how much they would cost? $2200 ball park.

The Toyota Intelligent Tester Tool II is the go, I reckon. I use one of these units, nearly every day. They give you everything on the Data List, including the feedback values and the number of fault codes stored.
                Just leave it with me.
                John.
How good is the resolution on the oscilloscope function ?, i am thinking of getting one of these for myself, but curious about this as most of the small screens aren't much good for this

Yes, I think it would be worth looking into, MJ.
The last one I got from ODB2, is actually the right unit. It has the square Denso battery in it. They sent a letter with it, very bad English, but what it said was that they purchased the unit from Denso Asia, Hong Kong.
When I was talking to Denso Australia yesterday, the guy there asked me what version of the software that I had, and I told him 2013 version 6. He said to me that they hadn't brought out that software update yet.
So, these Chinese companies do play in the grey areas with all this.
What they did with my unit, because I went right off at them after the second unit poohed itself, I think they actually did purchase the real unit and installed their software in it.
It would be a good idea MJ, to get onto the genuine article, for one good reason. They are so much better in quality and you don't have any problems with the on/off switches.
My first unit was purchased through Toyota Parts through a friend of mine. It had the most up to date version of the software in it, at the time, 2010.
As the guy from Denso said, the Chinese copies are not that bad for what you pay for them, if you get a good one.
So if we can find somewhere in the world that will sell us the real unit, this will cut out this hit and miss affair. You will be paying more for the genuine unit though.
                  Catch you later, John.
Roo what I need is brand, model number etc. My procurement people over there don't speak technical just specification.

My sources tells me that Toyota don't use these anymore.

That's what mine had on the rear. Opening the unit to remove the battery I found the battery wrapped in black plastic that was secured with masking tape. There was also a bit of tape around one of the components on the circuit board - that didn't look technical to me. And what's with the slab of steel covering the battery and separating the two circuit boards?

                          • I have version 6 of 2013. Didn't make any difference. Wouldn't even boot in off board mode. They told me not to use my finger. The manual says it has a touch screen and to use your finger. I use a stylus but no functioning of the main menu. Still waiting to see what they are doing with the unit.

                            • Just a FYI.
Rocklea Diesel in Brisbane is charging $2750 Drive in drive out for a 120 D4D Prado
Replacement injectors, and compensation codes etc

But replacement of pipes is extra and only done if neccessary they say.

I would have thought that the "MAIN" enemy to the fuel system is "WATER?"... So would the Extra water trap be the smarter move given that it has "NO" restriction on fuel flow?

So re mined me how big the micron size of the fuel filter is then tell how many microns the actual fuel injector jet size is? ..... I got it from the Denso sight so the filtration bit has me beat?.... Resistance fuel flow (Increases negative suction) loads the high pressure pump and makes both the injectors and pump noisy!..... I think???? Could be wrong Hay!

                                !
Well skywalker. I am agreeing with you on this.
I was talking with a bloke at my local diesel shop last week who owned a KZJ120 also.
As we were comparing cars i noticed how his car was much quieter than mine.
After discussing the comparisons, the only difference was that I had the fuel pre filter fitted.
I immediately bypassed it and am now using the OEM filter only.

Mate. It is a good 20% quieter. The injectors are not ticking as much and she starts easier and idles like a kitten purring.
Even the gear knob shake has halved!
Even the missus said it's running better.

                                Im making the call.
The racor R230R starves the 1KZ pump of the fuel flow that it needs!
It may have the correct flow rate, but maybe the pump doesnt have the balls the suck fuel through 2 filters?

I challenge other PPers to bypass their pre filter and report back with what they find!!!
