Anyone had to go back to baileys with issues????
Matt then sent me a complete set of injectors (at his cost) and these are super quiet at cold start and no soot on the bumper.
I was fortunate to fit Toyota seals not knowing about the brass ones that are causing issues now.

Better to show the full shot, but in this case it's enough to say its time to go! A bit overdue :-)

How to tell if issue with D4D expected after 120,000km
Hello and it seems this post may be best for the attention of ####
I have an August 2008 120 series D4D with just 120,000 kms on the ODO and have become alarmed about the content on this thread and I'm trying to determine if I too may have a time bomb ticking away with some major mechanical issue with the D4D. I've done the downhill start smoke test (not positive) and run the Techstream using the process most other posters here have done with the results as below (seems to be in tolerable range). Seems the next/last thing is to check the screen for blockage on the next oil change.
I'm still getting a handle on the Techstream software, as installed only today, so you may need more or better info than as is shown below, but are you able to comment if the results as presented below (I've missed the engine off readings) are cause for alarm?
Engine Off 120 sec idle After 12 min. drive idle
Inj. FB Vol. for Idle mm3/st 0.87 mm3/st 0.43 mm3/st

Injector Feedback Val #2 mm3/st -0.2 mm3/st -0.5 mm3/st

Injector Feedback Val #4 mm3/st 1.2 mm3/st 0.9 mm3/st
Pilot 1 Injection Period us 412 us 418 us
Pilot 2 Injection Period us 440 us 453 us

Really appreciate any views from more D4D / mechanically educated people on the forum.
Thanks Maximus

Hi Maximus, I'll let #### elaborate but the consensus is replace them at or before 120k irrespective of feedback values etc as they are not always an indicator that the injectors are working correctly.
Given yours is a 2008 Prado I would imagine that you should put a higher priority on replacement. There is no guarantee on how long they ultimately last but there seem to be influencing factors such as use of chips and towing heavy trailers. I know some owners have managed over 200k on original injectors and others have suffered piston failure much sooner (even before 100k).
I just had #### do the injectors on my 2010 Prado at 108k just for piece of mind as I intend on keeping it for the long term. The engine is definitely quieter and smoother.
If you are in Melb (or feel like going there for the weekend) I recommend you pay a visit to #### and just swap them out. Get him to do an intake clean at the same time if you haven't blocked off your egr yet.2010 150 Glacier White GXL D4D Auto

Hi Riv39
Thanks for your comments.
Yes, seems like time to accept the medicine before ending up in intensive care.
I do tow a heavy trailer a few times in the year, but low kilometres, say 3,000 pa., so another reason to do the injectors it may seem.
I'm in Perth so unfortunately Melb. to see #### is not really an option.
I've enquired today with a specialist here - R Moore & Sons in Kewdale WA - quote for Denso replacement injectors #4 supplied and fitted around $2.5k
Seems a reasonable price but I would like to gain some comfort that it is done right and what other than an intake clean should be requested.
Also what are appropriate readings via Techstream to aim for from new injectors.
Sorry for more questions.
Thanks again
Maximus

Hey it works..
Just thought i would share my story, since prado point was so much help in helping me out.
Perth 2008 GX manual 3.0 240km, serviced every 10k
Started the winter morning rattle, knock at around 200km. over the last year a little bit more smoke etc. couple of months back when parked nose down, 4hrs + later big cloud of smoke, white/grey.
So leaking past the injector seals, worse when nose down then burning off when starting. There was a recall of my model from using a copper? injector seating washer that failed. So mine have failed.
So bit the bullet and arranged injector replacement $2500 all up , original Denso OEM injectors and the new super special seals etc.
So not only had 2 of the seals gone, i found out that my injectors were discontinued as they have a problem, the story goes the new denso ones dont have the problem.
So headed off with the new injectors, motor sounded smooth a quieter, so that's good, and also noticed on the freeway i hardly touching the accelerator to keep it at 100km, i have noticed the last couple of years fuel efficiency was going down hill so will monitor and see where it is now. But expecting good news, heading to exmouth next month with the family so that will be a good test. I was thinking of upgrading but now with the new injectors i'll keep it for another 5 years at least
Service book says change injectors every 150km, so i had a good run.
So best advise if your having this problem in this model, is chase toyota hard on the faulty washer recall, and if you get it in for them to change, then be ready with the dodge injector deal and you just might get it all done for free....long shot but always worth a go, you could always ebay new injectors and make toyoto put them in.
perth pricing was from $2450- $3200. Some of them get the injectors for a good price and pass it on , others put a mark up on, Ie $390 vs $550 per injector, also be prepared to splash for 1 or more fuel lines as they dont always reseal, but a good mechanic should get it done, mine went back on fine. labour is 3-4 hrs, which is fare. Since so many prados in WA, some places are doing them every day so makes them good at it.
Note on cost savings I did find someone who would do it if i supplied the injector, would have worked out a round $2000 but they wouldn't warranty the injectors, there for no come back, i opted to pay a bit more a get the 1 year warranty and have a little piece of mind.
quick up date on fuel efficiency, I filled it up and drove 937kms before filling back up, it used 104lt, the math says it used a fraction over 11lt per 100km, thats a massive improvement over what it has been getting.
Has racks with half cage, around the suburbs and freeway and 2 towing jobs 180kms work towing 1000kgs
