mine is a Jan-08 build (delivery Easter-08) and just about to hit 15,000kms. No rattle.

:shock: Egad - just noticed...SLACKER....i normally do about 30-35k kms/yr. maybe my odo is out?!?! :shock:

Hi All

Mine is a May 08 build, delivery mid July. Just clocked over 20,000km, with no rattle, although I wouldn't mind getting it sid e by side with another just to check engine noise form both.

To answer Martbuzz, its done close on 15k now. I was getting nervous after the 10k service, but its still seems fine.
As I've mentioned before on this thread. It would be nice to get other vehicles side by side just ot listen.
I guess I'll have to wait til the 2009 GTG.

To answer Brissie Jon, I have May 2008 built D4D which I took delivery from in June last year. The only real noises I have is a ringing ocassionally which I believe is from the Denso Aircon Compressor. I have heard this also on my neighbours Prado, so I'm not really concerned. I'm sympathetic towards these owners with the rattle problem but haven't personally come across anyone with it to hear it. So maybe the 2008 models are O.k. I'm interested to see if anyone replies to your question John.

Hey Stewy, how many K's has your done? it seems to raise it's head after about 10-12'000 k's. Though you could be right, 2008 models might not be affected or is it because they haven't done the k's yet?

Folks you cannot mistake the rattle noise believe me it is very very noticeable you do not have to strain to here it, I think Lindsay can vouch for that after he heard mine the other day at Little Beach in Port Stephens. The look on his face when I started up and drove by was priceless.

If you have the rattle, you dont need a second opinion to make sure it is normal.......

I have recently arrived in S.A and just gone in for my 40,000km service ( f@#king how much $$$ was that again, sorry I think I misunderstood )

Had the new injectors in for approx 6,000km now and she runs and sounds just like a new one....

Just picked up the Prado from Toyota. Was meant to have the ECU reflash done, but they don't have the software. Have ordered it, so will need to take it back in the next couple of weeks. They have known about this for about 4 weeks can't believe they didn't have it ordered. :roll:

They did test the injectors though and said they are within specs. Results were: Turned off 1) -1.0, 2) 0.0, 3) 0.0, 4) -1.1. 15 seconds after cold start 1) 1.5, 2) -1.1, 3) 0.3, 4) -1.3.

Appreciate any feedback on what the above means and if they appear OK to yourselves? Rattle for me is not that present at the moment due to warmer temps but was definately about in the winter.

For the record, I have an Aug 07 build GXL.

Another May 08 build June delivery 14K on the clock no rattle, seems to ne the answer is new injectors for all you people

Well, I have an Oct 07 VX Prado with 25,000km and no rattle. Same build date as Mav who had the rattle.

picked my car up after having two injectors replaced, noise barely noticable when i left toyo. started my car in the morning the rattles back, took about 20km and to warm up to quiten down. Part of the invoice is as follows "road tested vehicle, knocking noise no longer as evident and clear as it was before" WTF is this crap, how bout toyo just fix the problem, seems partly fixing it is acceptable. Itsa a joke, these service depts claim to be the experts. Five times my car has been in with no loan car offered or available. so now its back to toyo again.

Developed the rattle around the 18K mark (which coincided with the colder weather). Got checked by the dealer around May 2008 and confirmed there is a rattle, dealer advised waiting on advice from HO.

Warmer weather arrives, (around Sept) rattle has gone - from memory it didn't coincide with a service, just gradually disappeared. Still no rattle number of months later.

Apart from servicing there has been no specific work (as far as I am aware) to fix the problem.

Is anyone else in this situation? Is it once you get the rattle you keep the rattle until repaired?

Hi Ron,

Generally when your D4D developes the cold engine rattle it is there anytime the engine is cold. I have experienced this condition twice now and this current time the rattle exist under acceleration.

My overall experience is that the rattle depends on how the injector fails, my first injector failed and it only rattled when the engine was cold but when they replaced it with an interim secondhand injector, that had been removed from another Prado for rattling, it rattled no matter what the engine temp.

Since having the secondhand one replaced with a new injector back in Sept 08 I have another injector failure, this time the rattle started when the engine was cold but has now progressed to rattling under acceleration as well.
