    QUOTE
My name is Jo from Handle My Complaint; we're a company that assists consumers with resolving their complaints. We have a client that has asked for our help with the same issue with their fuel injectors.

We're trying to help our clients get their fuel injectors replaced free-of-charge as they reported problems 3 times within the warranty period and were told there was no issue with the performance of the vehicle. Now they're being told that the performance issues they reported aren't related to the fuel injectors.

Just wondering how you went with getting your fuel injectors replaced?UNQUOTE

First off has anyone else received a similar request and has anyone on forum sought this assistance?

    • Hi All,

New to this great site..... for some reason it's taken me weeks to get on.
Recently bought an 07 D4D. Love it.

I too can hear some sort of rattle.
We have the obvious loud rattle from the engine running, but sometimes i hear a quieter rattle when accelerating, slightly higher pitched but not as loud.
Is this what everyone else in talking about?
Just wondering if it's worth taking back to the dealer?

      Thanks in advance!

      • Hi everyone,

I've been reading up feverishly on this topic as I'm looking at possibly buying a 150 series Prado - gone through about 20 pages of this mammoth thread and haven't been able to find my answer.

Is it true that it only affects injectors pre-2008 or does this issue occur in the 150 series as well? Have they resolve the issue on late models?

When you talk about cold starts, how cold are we talking about?

(Sorry, just realised this was in the 120 series forum)

          • Thanks Riv & Roo!

I've just spent 1.5 work days reading all 1113 posts in the 114 pages of this thread! OMG!

At this stage, I'm not sure I'd be comfortable putting down $50k on a Prado that still has a little bit of warranty left. Perhaps I'll wait and see for 6 months and see if the problem is still occurring on the 150s. It's a real shame

The other situation that is happening, Denso is dropping the price of these injectors all the time. If you get the 200,000kms mark out of a set of injectors which allot of people that I know have, well it works out at around the $1,700.00 mark per 100,000kms. Now, you would easily get that back in fuel economy over that period bringing it in cheaper than the 1HD-FTE to maintain on the overall picture of things. The real issue is how Toyota Australia are dealing with it and how you get around it if the problem happens.
Really, there is no vehicle on the market that has the flexibility of the Prado. The best Prado that I have ever owned out of the three models, is the 2005 KZJ120. The other option is the V6 option in the 150 models, beautiful engine that.
So if you don't like taking the small change of the injector problem in the 1KD-FTV, there are definitely other options in the Prado range of vehicles. Have a talk to AJ120, MLC, Richo and Matt, they all run the 1KD-FTVs in their Prados. They also do a fair bit of 4wding. PM them and see what their experience is before you make that final decision.
The other thing is that you can always get a reading on the injectors before you buy the vehicle just to make sure that the injectors are operating within range which I would strongly recommend you do. This site is about all the Prado owners coming together to solve say this issue, and to ask questions, and not just on mechanical either, a whole range of topics.
What I am trying to say, is that everything needs to be put into perpective, even the injector problem. If you want, I will help you find a good one, my PM is always open.
              The Roo.
Thanks Roo! Don't get me wrong - the Prado is the 4WD I have wanted for at least 5 years, and it was only now that I am ready to take the plunge that I found this thread. I came across the 'survey' thread and was under the impression that it was common enough a problem to be concerned. Do you think the survey results are a fair indication of how common this problem is in the real world?

How would you go about getting the injectors tested prior to purchase? Any idea how much this would cost? Certainly sounds like good insurance against something nasty.

Sorry, I'm not quite up to speed on the engines - is the 1KD-FTV the D4D engine in the 120?

I am looking at the VXs in the 120 and the GLXs in the 150 - purely for the curtain airbags. Although I prefer the foldaway third row in the 150s.

              • Roo,

I've had the 120 series d4d from the new (2009 so don't think it's the injector problem) does it mean that at roughly 200k kms i will need to get a set of new injectors or is it something worthwile for the early 2008 and prior owners?

                • Hi Roo,

                  Thanks for the advice.

I presume you mean to specifically request an injector test?
Even though I bought secondhand I took up the option of a 3 year "new car" warranty from the Toyota dealership.
If there is a problem I presume they'd take care of it?

                  Regards, Duong

                  • Totally agree Roo and while your at it seriously consider the additional 3 on top making 6 years (for a new car that is). I am seriously considering purchasing the additional 3 before I hit my last year.

                      • There are two opens for this extended warranty.

1- dealer warranty, this is cheaper than the other, but you have to take the car back there for each and every service, and any other mechanical work.... I had mine thrown in for my 2008 d4d.
2- Toyota warranty, costs more, but is covered by Toyota at any dealership...

My car is just over 3years old so I am into the extended part of my warranty, currently running at 95,500kms.

                        • Just a reminder to anyone thinking about the extended warranty you need to get in a bit before the warranty runs out, I cannot remember exactly but it was something like fewer than 90,000km and a few months to go.

                          • I was also told that the longer you leave it the more expensive it is and to definately buy it before you hit the last 12mths of factory. Don't know how true this is. I started a thread on this in the 150 area here http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread...ended+Warranty

My extended warranty was done through the dealer and I chose Swann Insurance rather than Toyota who were much dearer.

Swan have come to the party twice under the extended warranty, including the shortfall with injector issue , saving me $1400.

                              • FYI,

I got a quote on extended warranty 3 years + 50k kms = $1700 toyota genuine. Now have to work out to pros and cons (since no 2009 d4d has injector problems, I'm really thinking whether it's worth it)
