  • Surely, if Tojo Japan is subsidising these replacements, then there must be some sort of official policy from Japan that is directing Tojo in NZ to do the work. They wouldn't have a separate rule for NZ and AU and EU and GB and SAF and USA and JAP, would they?

      • here's the offer from a dealer in NZ ( offer is valid at all dealers ) -http://www.miles.co.nz/great-offers/Service-Offers/
I spoke to Toy NZ about my engine rattle and they didnt take any arm twisting to include my Prado D4-d (same engine as the Hi-lux) with the current Hi-Lux offer
I approached them with a recent dealer injector test ( which said all ok !! ) and also a report from a diesel specialist who said that the engine was suffering from servere fuel knock at light load, and it needed injectors replaced imediately
They took just 3 days to call me back with a "goodwill warranty offer" for the injectors to be replaced for $1200 (approx $1000 AUD)

as for diesel prices - curently around the $1.50 mark, but we also pay (in advance) for road user charges (RUC) for diesel vehicles only - which is $48.70 / 1000km . - Annual vehicle registration is now $560 for diesel and $310 for petrol (from memory)

        • THanks for the info bushhbasher

Im leaving the prado tonight with the dealers repairer and they will test it out tomorrow. I am probably going to get a second opinion from toyota after what this repairer says if they say something fishy like theres nothing wrong with it etc.

Thats an awesome deal you got Rick i wonder if toyota australia would do it

          • I had my prado 120 (2007) checked for noisy injectors when new, toyota told me that they were within limits. I had same checked after 90000kms readings were 0.8,0.1,1.7,1.5, as they are under +/-3.0 they tell me that this is OK?. After some conversation they tell me there is no recall and that the smoke coming out of the cold engine is normal.(wonder if it would pass a roadworthy) They also told me that they wouldn't expect to get more than about 150000ks out of these injectors.Their cost for replacing all four injectors $3000.00

            • Interesting here, that you can not buy a set of injectors, pipes seals etc for that price
The deal is FITTED by the dealer ONLY.

The 3.0% figure for injector feedback tests is the Toy limit before replacement, this test must be done from cold and driven
Found out dealers here only seem to test in the shop

I enquired about purchasing a set of injectors etc through my business trade acc and was told $3200 inc gst

But can get the same Denso injectors with seals etc for around the $2500inc mark from a diesel specialist

              • Hi All
I have rattle/ injector issues with my 2007 VX D4D purchased in Dec 2007. A quick summary of what has occurred so far:
Cold start up death rattle appeared in June 2011 at 30,000km when vehicle 6 months out of new car warranty. Toyota suggested a re-flash of engine computer and problem went away until June 2012 (cold month) at 38,000km, when it reappeared with a vengeance. Toyota have recommended that I replace all injectors at a subsidized cost of $1500.

My argument with Toyota is a major engine component failure at 30,000km and then less than 40,000km does not seem to be reasonable for a $75,000 vehicle. The vehicle has only been serviced by Toyota at or before the recommended intervals and was only 6 months out of new car warranty when I first raised the issue with them. Why should I be out of pocket? I see the NZ service offer states that vehicles of 150,000km may need to refresh their injectors......I'm 110,000 km off that travel figure.

My Toyota service centre has been really helpful, Toyota corporate have not been entirely helpful. Has anyone with a vehicle of similar km had success in having all injectors replaced for free by Toyota out of warranty?

                Thanks

The cold knock injector issue must be checked when cold - otherwise the fault is not evident

The knock is "fuel knock" from excesse fuel being injected during the "pilot injections" before the main injection
Once over 60 or 65deg C the injection pattern changes and the noise usually goes away

Well no local dealer I know will do this test cold so what can I do? I have only got 40k on the odometer and of course the injectors are perfect when hot.

For example, telling everyone, including us in the diesel industry, that the failure was because of poor quality diesel fuel when they knew it wasn't.

Hey Roo, what makes it worse is seeing other countries admitting (sort of) that the problem exists and still Toyota Aus sticks its head in the sand with crap like "oh well you see that only applies to the European model".

                            • Sounds like Toy Aus are doing massive damage to the brand by ignoring the countless number of problems
Has anyone approached Toyo Japan directly? Maybe link there Tech dept to this thread

The more I read on this , the luckier I feel that Toy NZ are actually doing something about it

Shame i cant supply PP members with decently priced injectors from here

                              • Hey guys,
Well after reading the posts on this forum, and after experiencing the nasty rattle in my Prado, I queried the service manager at my local Toyota dealership this week about the noise. The vehicle was due for its 110km service, and I asked if he could have a listen to it. I brought the car with 80kms on it, and noticed it the day after I got it home. It honestly sounded like it had a cylinder with piston slap, and once the engine warmed up it disappeared. When I went to collect the car from its service, the dealership told me that I had two problems with it. Just to give you an idea on my background, I have built performance drag racing engines in the past, so I know a thing or two around an engine. The first problem was the water pump had a small leak which I had no idea about. And two, they wanted to hang on to the vehicle overnight to do a cold start check in the morning, because they said the knocking was excessive even when the engine was warm. Anyways, a long story short, they preformed a "reflash" of the ECU and replaced the water pump. I have been told that it could take up to 1000kms for the noise to dissapear, but I drove the vehicle early this morning, and can honestly say it sounds like a brand new engine. No knocking at all, even when driven hard on a cold engine. I guess now im glad I forked out the 1800 bucks for the premium warrenty, because i only had to pay for e service and the coolant they replaced on the water pump job. I hope this helps some of the guys concerned about the knock in their D4D.
