Auxiliary Fuel Filter

Need your thoughts/opinions/advice on your experiences with fitting an additional fuel filter.

I see there are a few 'KITS' around which utilise different manufacturer's filters, i.e. Fuel Master, Donaldson, etc.

Has anyone else installed one of these? If so, which one? And what micron size filter? Are these kits worth the money?

I used the Cat fuel filter and housing. It is 5 micron. Part number for housing and filter is 144-9926 and is about $98. The part number for the filter is 156-1200 and is $22. See picture.

i think 2 micron is too fine, too much load on the pump

I've used the CAT unit for the last 100 000km and havn't had an issue. The filters can run up to 24000km however you can feel a bit of a power loss if you run them beyond 20 000km. I'm not sure if the filter blocks up or the paper hardens with age and heat. I usually change them every 10 000km if I'm on a trip or every 15 000km around town.

You can also use a Donaldson P551426 filter which is 15 micron and will fit the cat or fuelmanager housing as it does not have the locator on the side.
