    • Hi Gents,
      It's about new mapper development.
I had a member who wanted a Manual Mapper for his Diesel Truck but changed his mind and cancelled because he heard about new mapper will be out soon.

I would like to inform you that new version of mapper which under development will only be working with 150 or 200 Prado or whatever the current model that uses the DIGITAL MAF Sensors.

The old style diesels such as Prado 120 or Hilux with analog MAF sensors will only be supported by current Manual Mappers and the new version mappers which under development is NOT for these models.

I wanted make sure there is no confusion about that.
Many optional accessories suppose to come with new version mapper will also be offered as an independent unit to old style Prado and Hilux after new mapper development is finished so it will be fair to the current model mapper users.

Therefore, the current manual mapper is the only mapper will be offered to the members who own Prado 120 or Hilux with Analog MAF sensors.

I apologise if I have been mentioning that new mapper which under development will also work with old Prado 120 with analog sensors.
It would become a hell of complication to incorporate both analog and digital system in one mapper. It just wasn't practical, was only greedy thought.

      Cheers
      Ozbush

      • Ozbush,

Looking forward to when the new unit is ready, and more then happy to help out if you need another test vehicle.

        • Forgive my ignorance. But what is the long term affects of the egr been closed.

          Quick google showed this

The EGR valve is an important component in the exhaust gas recirculation process as it helps to prevent exhaust valves from overheating, which can accelerate their wear and tear. The EGR valve therefore helps maintain the exhaust system at full capacity and increases the longevity of the internal combustion process.

          • How far off are we looking for the new 150 Mapper and what are the updates over the current model?

            • Just recently purchased and fitted my Manual Mapper.

My initial feedback is good, feels more responsive. easy to fit. will post back about fuel economy after this tank.

              • Is the unit waterproof? Looks untidy, want to hide it.
Can they be fitted inside? Not best looking though.

Yes more cold air, always going to be more responsiveness reducing or shutting the silly egr.
Better economy, but only some drivers notice it. Depends how you drive too.
Those who drive slow like a diesel will get results. Those who fly, will get less.

I think the maker has previously indicated that it is 'military grade' device...robust to the max...but I agree, it does look a little "untidey" as you say, and I wonder if the dial is easy to "knock"..perhaps a flush type knob that needs a screw driver to rotate it may be a better option....but I absolutely love the concept, and its a great project for retired automotive engineer, well done...

                  • Has anyone coupled the install of their manual mapper + full blank plate with crank case bypass venting to atmosphere like displayed on Ozbush's website?

Any possible negative affects on the engine (D4D) to be aware of? I am aware of legalities, but engine health takes a greater priority for me.

Would it be slightly better set up to go crank case -> catch can -> atmosphere or would it be fine to just go crank case -> atmos given space is at a premium in my engine bay these days?

How many mL of oil are people catching in the catch cans over 5000-10000km with or without blank plates usually?

                    Comment

                    • There is one member running the full vent to atmosphere option. Look back through this blog and you may find it.
I had run a Provent on our D4D and found with new filter took a while for the element to saturate and drip oil. The longer the oil was in the more I found in the can. At times about 50 ml per approx 1500km but this was with old oil. Usually would only see 150 ml between changes unless towing long distance.
We have the mapper and full blank plate but removed the catch can as any oil will not harm the intake with no exhaust soot to mix with.
For those considering this mod look at the remote head unit as it allows for more discrete install of the unit under bonnet. Our head unit is in the glove box.

My Prado is now semi retired to the garage as work have given me a car, and if the job works out may reluctantly sell the Prado as we also have a 100 TD Sahara taking up room beside it.

Too many cars and not enough time to drive them.

                      • So, Rusty, you're saying that leaving the crank case hooked up as is as it causes no detriment to the engine internals if a full blank plate is applied because no EG is mixing with it?

So, no point rerouting it then just leave it hooked up as is?

Ozbush does claim 10-18kw more power when blocking EGR and venting to atmosphere though, any advancements on this claim?

                        • Hi rorza, I have gone the full hog and fitted the full blank, remote mapper (in glovebox, easy to adjust) and run the full vet to fresh air through a Provent catch can. Waste oil is about the same as Rusty. The waste oil is very black. I haven't noticed that much difference in more power, but I do run a DP Chip so may make a difference there. Plus I drive as a nomad. Good speed. I am now running 2 stroke oil in fuel at 250:1. I feel the motor is quieter, especially at idle. One big difference with the full blank, the oil at near 4,500km is so clean I can see the silver of the dipstick through the oil. After the next flush/oil change I think it will stay as brand new for full 5,000km. Well get to it. A good investment I think.
Rusty, Hi mate, Shame to see the Prado go. You two have been through a lot together. I thought we would be doing a van trip, but the Boss has to go to Scotland for awhile so maybe later. Take care and cheers Bill.

Thanks Bill. Not selling it yet as not sure if keeping this job. Won't be leaving PP either even if it does sell.
My oil is still going black quickly but doesn't do the k's it used to. On contrast the FTE motor in the 100 the oil stays much cleaner and have also removed the EGR. Now looks like a petrol oil on the stick.

                            Need a holiday already.

                              • Rusty62, Hi mate, good to hear you won't be leaving PP. I don't know why your oil is still going black. I have approx 500ks after last oil flush/ change and is even cleaner than before. I would imagine I got rid of a bit more rubbish with this change. I am getting down in the low 11km/100 now, so everything is working right by the looks. Thank you Ozbush. I haven't seen anything from "Young" for awhile now either. Do you like the 100 better than the beast? I would think it would pull a lot better. OK i'm off again. Take care and cheers Bill.
