  • Pre filter service schedule?

I've read in another thread that a Toyota service centre alternate the replacement of the tailshaft filter and underbonnet filter every 20,000k. So each filter sees 40,000k service life. I thought that the OEM underbonnet filter only needed replacing when the dash light came on. So I guess in this case, Toyota are ensuring that a vehicle serviced by them is problem free for the customer (by changing the underbonnet filter regularly).

I have installed a pre filter (aftermarket filter) in my engine bay, and I'm led to believe that should this block up, it will also engage the dash light.

I'm left wondering though, what service schedule should I apply to these 3 fuel filters? I'm thinking of alternating the replacement of the tailshaft and pre filter every 20,000k - change the OEM underbonnet when the dash light comes on (if ever).

Would this be ok? What are others doing?

The one above the tail shaft should be replaced every 20k or more often.
Under bonnet every 40k or more often.
Both of those are 6.5 micron (nominal)
    Carry spares on outback trips.

The only other filter arguably worth having is a 2 micron final & that I think may need changing around every 20k.

The 150 prado fuel filter has a different part number but looks the same. Anyone know the difference? Micron rating maybe? The fuel pump on 150's is a different part number as well.

By 'final', I hope you don't mean after the OEM filter in the engine bay, should it block up you will have no warning/indication and potentially a damaged fuel pump. Not a cheap repair either.

I bought my pre filter for the water separation capability and sight glass bowl, not micron count. Emulsified water at high pressure is like sandblasting to injector nozzle tips.
